Makes much smoother shifting. Most auto supply shops do not stock GL-4.

My 1972 VW Beetle requires a GL-4 lubricant for the transaxle because of the Hypoid gear setup. Nobody in town had what I needed.
... is the correct gear oil for my 74 VW Super Beetle because of the GL-4 rating
Albert Castanon✓ Verified Purchase•December 17, 2016
This is the correct gear oil for my 74 VW Super Beetle because of the GL-4 rating. I tried another more modern gear oil with a GL-5 rating but it caused hard shifting and made the shifter bind. I switched to this and it solved both issues. Works great in older gear boxes requiring the older GL-4 rated oil.
Seems like good oil

Seems like good oil. One shortcoming - Came in a black bottle that wasn't see through, which would have helped in observing how much had passed into the rear axle reservoir of my 1970 MGB. Had trouble getting it into the reservoir too, so you may need additional tubing and funnels.
