Not Working As Expected

I bought this to replace a mixet valve installed in 1955 in my little bathroom shower. Every time I use it, either the pressure drops and/or the mix or hot and cold water changes without my interference. I rarely get defective products on Amazon, but I believe this item maybe defective. I installed it as directed but can't seem to make it work properly.
