I know that the double blade helped my 5 year old balance and boosted her confidence on the ice. Some would call it a crutch, but it also made her first time ice skating an enjoyable adventure. She was able to stay up most of the time, and she did not stop after ten minutes like her older cousin did. In fact, I had to drag her off the ice an hour later! These were inexpensive and perfect for a first timer. She enjoyed her Christmas present, and I definitely got my money's worth from that first skate experience. Next year, we will go to a single blade.

Our daughter only used hers once. There is no ankle support in the skates. We had to switch her to rentals. She was able to skate much better after we switched to the rentals.

Double runners are fun but I think it was a waste of money to buy these. Very short lived and she was in to real skates before she grew out of these. These are pretty cheaply made too. But they fit as expected and with a good pair of smartwools there not horrible.
