Good product - bad packaging (dented cans)
Rosemary McQuiston✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 25, 2017
Item is exactly what I wanted. Taste is good. Unfortunately, almost every can in a 12 pack was dented - some worse than others. This had to be caused by Westbrae - not Amazon - because they are packed in cardboard and covered with plastic. This is the third order where some of the cans were dented. I'm going to give it one more try - and then will start looking elsewhere.
Good soup base.

I can't find these in local stores and the price was reasonable. I forgot how bland lentils can be so will up the seasoning for my next batch of soup. I followed my recipe but soup came out with good texture but little flavor.
Great Brand of Canned Lentils

In honor of my daughter I'm going to try and keep this short, who after reading my Moana review says I write too much, and asked for permission to rat me out if she every heard anybody complaining about my crazy review. Yes babe, you sure can. I stand by all my crazy. Have ordered 2 batches of these, they come shrink wrapped, sell by dates on both listed 1-2 years in the future. One can did come with a small dent in the last batch, but according to the US Dept of Agriculture website, small dents are not a safety problem. Only if it's big enough to crease the can or the sealed lid can a dent lead to bacterial contamination. Quality of product has been good, and very much a life saver on time strapped nights. Individual cans comparably priced to our local store, and lower in sodium then some brands-yippee! Seriously love these!
The Health Conscious Person's Fast Food
Rachel the Serene✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 2, 2016
These lentils are great for complimenting meals made by someone, like me, who can become unpredictably too busy to cook. Sometimes I need a fast prepared meal, but I am way too health conscious to buy the unhealthy fast food. That is why I enjoy these organic lentils, which are ready from the moment I take them from the can. They are versatile in that I can combine them with various other foods, including salad, rice, and soup. However, my favorite way to eat them is with my favorite organic chips or on top of a slice of organic homemade bread. I think these canned organic lentils are great for a healthy eater when he or she is camping, in a hurry, or just feeling not up to cooking.

The one minor problem with the product was that nearly every single one of the cans was dented somewhere. Therefore, the metal seems not as strong as it could have been made, or maybe the material was designed to be "flexible" on purpose. Anyway, I tore the paper off of all the dented cans so I could examine the dents. Fortunately, there were no holes at all.

While they might be in weak cans, I like the lentils because they are organic and almost as delicious as their freshly cooked counterparts. Since I found no cans actually leaking, I have no complaints this time (and hope I never will), although, I do suggest the company improve the can quality. Because these lentils are organic, delicious, and reasonably priced, I would likely order these again.
Great source of fiber if you prepare it correctly

As far as good fiber sources go, lentils are near to top of the list. I've tried the large bowls of high-fiber cereal, but those just keep me feeling bloated and uncomfortably full for more than six hours. My wife used to prepare a great lentil soup every week, but her new job travel schedule precludes that favor, and I don't have the time to cook my own lentil soup. Westbrae Natural Organic Lentils is an easy to prepare alternative with over 40 grams of fibers per serving. I don't like the smell or taste of the broth, so I start by draining that from the can. Then I pour the lentils into a pot and stir them over the stove for a few minutes until they're nice and hot and ready for the soup bowl. I don't particularly like the rather boring and plain flavor of the lentils by themselves, so I add a few spoonfuls of a good salsa sauce (I use Newman's Own Medium) into the bowl to create the perfect flavoring. One bowl of lentils of day and the occasional raspberry smoothie and I'm getting all the real fiber I need.
