Great fire roasted tomatoes without added salt.the

Low sodium, so I can use on anything. Great tomato taste. I get grossed out with pre-made sauces that taste like Chef B*yardee, even though step-dad has paid a small fortune for the (salty) vodka sauce. This is the real deal, with no tinny taste, just a great long-simmered depth of flavor. A dash of sugar would be good if you find it too intense.

I have been using these for years. If I don't do my own canning, these are my go-to tomatoes.
They have a great flavor and I love the fire-roasted taste. When I make my tomato sauce it has a nice rich color.

Original: The cans arrived in great shape unlike some past orders of another product. The packaging was very good. The tomato sauce itself is excellent. I will buy this product again.

Back in 2011, the last time I ordered this product from Amazon.com, the case of tomato sauce cans had no dents and were BPA free. Unfortunately, prior to that there were several dented cans in each case. Because Amazon was out of this product when I ordered, last week (8/22/2012), I received a case from another reliable dealer in which half of the case contained dented cans and all contained BPA. I wrote Muir Glen, which is a div. of General Mills, and a customer rep. called me today. The cans are packaged by them in case lots by automated equipment. She's sending the info on the dented cans to quality control. As to the BPA issue, she advised that 2 seasons ago they stopped using BPA cans but some pre-2014 use-by-date cans may still contain the white lining/BPA in the cans. About half of the cans that expire in 2013 contain BPA. So, please check the "use by date" on the can. My case lot had a use-by-date of 23Feb2013, the bar code number is (small 7) 2534228571 (small 4). FYI, I'm not buying this product again unless I can see the "use by date." It's still a great tasting, no-salt-added tomato sauce. (Revised 8/27/2012)

Truthfully, these are a bit odd. I was hoping they were similar to crushed tomatoes which are unavailable except for the basil type which I do not want. In the case of these "ground" tomatoes, I have no idea how one can grind a tomato and have it come out like this item, which is exactly like diced tomatoes in a thin broth which is hardly even "sauce" because it's not thick enough. It's very strange! That said, they are organic which is a plus and are tasty and fine for cooking with, as long as you can incorporate diced tomatoes in broth into your recipe. I usually put a can of crushed tomatoes and a pound of hamburger in the crock pot to make meat sauce. Maybe because of the large chunks, the can didn't fill up the crock like it normally would, so I had to use a can and a half and the sauce is very chunky. I am sure it will taste good but I guess I will have to run to the store to get what I really want, and the large cans at the store are only $2.
