Fixed Inducer Motor Bearing Howl on Armstronag SX Ultra 90
R. S. FurmanAugust 6, 2017
I have an Armstrong SX Ultra 90 that is approximately 20 years old. I used this draft inducer to replace the original one that was developing a motor bearing howl. I had some minor issues getting the unit mounted as it was not precisely an exact replacement, but with a little fiddling around I got it mounted OK. All the electrical and plumbing connections were exactly as on the original. The howling stopped, and now the furnace works great.
affordable quality replacement

The stock fan went bad on my '95 Lennox furnace and this was a direct replacement. Straightforward and easy to install.
Easy replacement

Was a perfect replacement for my Ametek Windjammer 117225-02 40404-1. Took maybe 15 minutes to replace. Anyone can do it. Flip the breaker to turn off power to the furnace, disconnect power and ground, loosen hose clamp on coupling to the exhaust pipe, remove the 1/4" silicone vacuum tube that runs to the pressure switch. Install gasket on the back of the new draft inducer, mount using existing screws, tighten clamp on exhaust, attach vacuum tube, connect ground, connect power, turn breaker back on. The only tricky part was that there are 3 ports on the front of this that look like places where the vacuum tube could be connected. Two of them are just decorative or something. Only one actually produces a vacuum. If the exhaust port is facing up, the correct one is at about 10 o'clock. I also sanded my flame sensor while I was replacing this because a light scale had formed in the couple of days that the furnace wasn't running.
Priced right great quality

Nice replacement inducer fan for a fraction of the cost of OE . Works perfectly as designed and the only reason for 4 stars is it's just a tad louder than OE. Basically a five minute change out from old to new, all gaskets were included and plug & play, it's that simple. Can't go wrong, great product and great price and super fast shipping when I needed it in winter..Burrrrr cold.
