Fantastic exhaust for AP1/AP2. No drone. No rice. Pure quality.
Eric HermannJanuary 10, 2018
Purchased and installed on a 2007 AP2.

First and foremost, if you are looking for an exhaust for your S2000 you are probably fully aware that you arent going to see a massive horsepower gain out of any aftermarket exhaust. The engine is pretty much as optimized as it can be from the factory.

So, that leaves 3 main points to consider: 1: Weight 2: Looks and probably most important 3: SOUND

1: Weight: This system is lighter than the fat stock system, not enough to see any real gains in performance, but it IS lighter. So thats a plus. Then again, pretty much any aftermarket exhaust can improve on the weight of the OEM exhaust, so thats not really a selling point for this system.

2: Looks: Single or dual exhaust is a choice we all make. I prefer the dual look on this car, especially considering the bumper already has cutouts for dual exhaust. That said, the exhaust itself is very nice looking - the tips are highly polished and the fitment is spot on. No rubbing or extraneous protrusion of the tips. I daresay it almost looks factory.

3: Sound: Alright, this is the big one. Read any S2000 forum on exhaust and you are going to see one word repeated over and over again: DRONE. When picking an exhaust the drone factor was my NUMBER ONE concern. This exhaust has NO DRONE. I am completely comfortable riding at any gear, any revs, top up or down. To me there is only one other exhaust that beats this one and that is the Amuse exhaust which is ungodly expensive. Unlike many other S2000 exhausts, this one is not blow-your-eardrums-out loud either. It is pretty tame until VTEC, where it sounds like a formula one car (so sweeeeet). For your standard running around town driving though, this exhaust isnt going to catch the attention of the police or wake your neighbor up at 5 in the morning when you leave for work. So if you want a super loud LOOK AT ME exhaust - this is NOT the exhaust you are looking for. Go with Nvidia for that. If you are looking for a sophisticated and well balanced exhaust that doesnt require earplugs after driving around for an hour, you aren't going to find a better one than this Tanabe system.

Pros: Stylish, NO DRONE, sounds great throughout the rev range. Installation was flawless. No fitment issues. Fits both AP1 and AP2 S2000s.

Cons: None whatsoever. This is EXACTLY what I wanted in an exhaust for my S2000. Too soon junior.
Tanabe! The Exhaust you need for you S2k!

mazing Exhaust! Really gives it a nice deep growl when you're driving along. It is a little on the quiet side when compared to other exhausts like the q300 but I think it produces a better sound overall. My friend has the q300 and he noted that his sounds a little raspy, while mine just sounded nice and deep. You even feel the rumble slightly in the cabin which is pretty awesome! There really isn't any drone with this exhaust. At WOT, it sounds beautiful! I really am happy with the purchase I made although I was hesitant at first because I thought it might be too quiet. But..It's perfect and now my S2k sounds as it should! I also made a video to showcase the exhaust and compare it to stock! Search up S2000 Tanabe Medalion Touring Exhaust and my account is Andres Razo if you'd like to see.
Just what I was Looking for!

I had tanabe medalion touring for my g37 so I knew the quality of the product would be very high. I purchased the invidia q300 before this exhaust, it was too loud and I decided it wasn't for me. I wanted something that had an aggressive tone when I pushed the car, but tame during everyday driving. This is just that, I love the tone of this exhaust and it looks close to stock also. Fitment is near perfect. If you want an adult sounding exhaust that is deep and not raspy this is for you. I highly recommend it. I have videos of this exhaust on YouTube, the channel is John's S2K.
For the grown man.

I paired this with a 63.5mm Berk HFC and the exhaust sounds amazing. This is a great grown up exhaust. Doesn't scream loud like others exhaust and hes no drone while cruising.

What I love the most is the very deep sound every time you accelerate.

This may not be for you if you like screaming exhaust like the Nvidia N1 or T1R. I've had the N1 and I regret putting such a loud montrosity on my car. So really this is all about taste, get what you want.
Tanabe, probably close to stock at start up but @ WOT it sounds throaty and louder over stock (with HFC).

This is my second exhaust that I have owned for my S2000 in a week period. I owned Magnaflow which sounded much more aggressive than Tanabe Medalion Touring in terms of volume and deeper sound. (Magnaflow 1:0 Tanabe) But Magnaflow definitely droned. (Magnaflow 1:1 Tanabe) On the other hand, Medalion fit better and easier to install as welded flanges gives you no adjustment which means, everything lines up in one direction (Magnaflow 1:2 Tanabe). Whereas other exhaust systems, namely, the Magnaflow requires slip joints and strap clamps to give you adjustable system but that could be both positive and negative.... but personally, who has time for that.

Everything bolted up. Tanabe smoked pretty bad after 10 miles of highway as things are burning in the baffles (Magnaflow 2:2 Tanabe). It still smells funny after driving about 50 miles. Mangaflow smelled for maybe 5 minutes. Tanabe came with gaskets between joints Magnaflow had no gasket whatsoever (Magnaflow 2:3 Tanabe).

I also installed high flow cat (HFC) from Berk. Even with that, Tanabe is much milder than Magnaflow or Q300 withOUT HFC. I actually wonder without HFC how quiet it would have been. I wouldn't want it any quieter than how it is with HFC.

If you like quiet exhaust system that gives you daily drivability and little more sound at the top, this is it. If you want something that sounds aggressive from the start up, Tanabe definitely IS NOT for you.

Would I recommend it? I would, if you like quality exhaust system that fits well, compliments the stock look and does not wake up people upon start up.

I will follow up in a few weeks with regard to smell.

[UPDATE] It has been about 4 months since the install. I still like the exhaust. One thing I realize is the exhaust definitely has gotten louder and there is a bit of drone around 3000 RPM. Nothing too much but enough to notice. FYI.

[Update 2 year follow up] I still have it. It does drone around 2500~3000 at certain load. I don't daily my S2K. I wouldn't like it any louder. Still gets my vote.
