Paid way too much for an inferior product design. Leaks. Did not screw together squarely and does not stand fully vertical. Should have gone with local supplier's one-piece unit at â…“ the price.

I set a low bar when I ordered this product, yet I was still disappointed.
First issue: Someone decided to place a 3" x 1" paper sticker on the side of the clear plastic, had this been glass, it wouldn't have been an issue. I soaked it in warm water for 30 minutes, but all the adhesive was left on the plastic. I was leery of using a solvent to remove the residue, for fear of a reaction with the plastic. I finally broke down, and used a few Zeiss lenses cleaners, and the alcohol on them removed most of the gummy residue, but I was left with some scratches.

Second issue: In the center of the bottom of the base, there is a remnant from the injection molding process, that interferes with it's ability to sit flat. It wobbled around like a drunk on a boat, this was easily rectified with a single edge razor.

I'm new at this whole home brewing thing, but the description didn't say anything about the tube coming in three pieces. I imagine the third piece is probably used as a makeshift shiv to help open packages of hops and fend off thirsty transients.

I rarely give reviews, but this thing is really bad. I bought this to test some distillate. It feels sturdy. I put the base on, poured my alcohol into it, and was excited that it's right at 190 proof. I poured the alcohol back into the Mason jar, set the test jar upright on the counter and left the room. I came back in a few minutes later and found the test jar shattered with pieces lying on the counter.

It was fine when I set it down, then shattered on its own. I poured some of my alcohol into a shot glass and put a piece of the shattered plastic in with it. 10 minutes later, the plastic was soft. I tested another piece of the plastic with some store bought everclear, and it had the same result.

tl;dr; Alcohol is a solvent, this test jar is a cheap plastic that will melt in contact with alcohol. Don't buy this for anything alcoholic. Even beer or wine. The alcohol will dissolve the plastic and even if it doesn't shatter, it will leach chemicals into your product. Buy a solid glass one instead for a few dollars extra.

Like several other reviews, after testing the tube with some vodka, then putting the tube under tap water (not hot), the tube cracked like a broken windshield. Its plastic (plexi or lexan). Base (it screws onto the tube) is actually great. Crazy that it happened, just like everyone else said it would. :) I wouldn't buy it again, but there weren't a lot of options on here.
