8 year old loved it! Highly recommend

Yes there isn't much to this kit, but what IS there is great. My 8 year old was able to read and follow the directions independently and the look of pride that she *MADE* Chocolate was wonderful. She completely skipped over the "story" of chocolate that they provide and went right to business but other kids and adults might enjoy the detail that they go into.I think this would make a nice unique birthday or christmas gift for kids. Only improvement would be to add more servings so you can make it more than just once.Or include recipe card with measureable amounts so we could source our own ingredients and make more ourselves.
Not sure what to think as of yet...

I got 2 of these for my boyfriend's little nephew's for Christmas (I'll update review after they get to make and try them) smaller than I thought they would be but still look cool, I was expecting the Aztec boxes but got different ones & was a little disappointed by that but oh well lol hopefully they have fun & love them.

I'd say this kit is just ok. It occupied my sons for a half an hour and the chocolate we made was pretty bitter. The kit is smaller than you think based on the picture. It's like a small box versus a large kit. If you are giving for a gift, it will not look like much. Did they learn about chocolate and make it? Yes. Was it worth it? It's ok. I feel like you could just make another kitchen experiment instead. Also it's a one time and done kit (unless you make half at one time and half at another time).
So much more than chocolate!

This kit was the first "lab" I scheduled for my Botanty class. The kids had so much fun making chocolate from scratch. The box included a handout with a story that explained some geography, anthropology, and history. It also included a website where we found a ton of links and lesson plans. I wasn't expecting this $10 product to lead to so much more. It led to lessons on sustainable farming, knowledge of the rainforests, indigenous peoples who make their living making chocolate... one of the best purchases I've made on Amazon.

The packaging was much smaller than what I was expecting. Totally ok with that, it was just a surprise. Box is approx 6". Purchased this for Christmas for a friend who is totally into chocolate. They will love it.
