Time tested performance

I've used Hoppes 9 oil since I first ever owned a gun. My dad has used it on his collection of pistols and rifles for decades and it has never steered him wrong. It goes on smooth and leaves the gun looking like new and thoroughly protected. It doesn't dry up over time like some cheaper oils which means you won't have to clean as often (unless of course you fire the gun). I wouldn't trust my guns to anything else. Using this oil paired with Hoppes 9 bore cleaner is a winning combination. If you're serious about keeping your guns rust free and operating at their peak level then this oil is a must.
Tried it and it works.

This oil is as good as the high priced oil that I used to pay almost Five times the price that this stuff sells for on Amazon. I am writing this because I am very picky about what goes on the rifle that I bought 36 years ago from the entire sum of money I earned on a summer job. It's a high end rifle and I tried this oil back in July. It went on with good coverage and is still holding. I live in an underground structure so humidity is a problem and this oil works here, so I am ordering an extra bottle for my stock pile.
OK, but there are better options

This is a good gun oil for starting out, but in reality it's just mineral oil and it costs too much for what it is. I've seen the oil gum up after several weeks and also dry up quickly after under a few hundred rounds. The bottle is also not the handiest for applying the oil hard to reach places. There's a lot of gun oil products out there at all sorts of prices, but I recommend just getting a bottle of Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-50, a soft precision paint-brush and you're set for life. If you trust your car engine with it at 7000 RPM, it will certainly be OK for your lubricating gun.
