I am writing my review in response to some negative reviews. People need to be informed so they can make the best choice for themselves.
First I think Barbara's should improve their labeling. People tend to mistake Barbara's original cheese puffs for the airy puffy version instead of what these are, the crunchy version. I like them both.
I bought my case the end of December 2020. The expiration date is not until September 4, 2024. Is it possible the short or past expiration dates are due to the seller bought from? Frequently there is more than one seller for items. Some buy older batches of food items for cheap and then sale them on Amazon where the expiration date can't be seen. When there is a product sold by or fulfilled by Amazon even if it is not returnable, it is refundable unless labeled otherwise. Make sure you know who is fulfilling the order.
These certainly are not the healthiest snack. This version of puffs is oily, because they are fried not baked, I prefer the fried because I think they taste better. Salty? I think they are overly salty too, but I still enjoy them.
Is it unusual for a snack made with sharp cheddar, blue cheese, and buttermilk to be tangy or what some would consider sour? Everyone has different taste preferences and that is okay, but Barbara's original cheese puffs are one of mine.

Allergic to gluten, msg, and artificial food dyes, these are a great alternative to the major brand of cheese puffs. Be aware though, that these are a substitute for the crunchy puffs, not the puffy puffs. The taste is really good and I prefer these over the major brand. Good deal for the price as well.

We get the Baked Original Cheese Puffs by the case because we eat them every night. Most of the batches we get are good... sometimes we get a batch that is amazingly good... but every once in a while we get an off batch that's not so enjoyable at all. I think the company tries for excellence and consistency, but maybe they don't have the money to taste test all their products every time. That being said they make the best puffies out there often enough that we'll keep ordering them. So if you're game for a bit of low stakes gambling it's worth taking the chance on Barbara's.

I buy these consistently and love them when they reflect their standard quality. Unfortunately, I have encountered whole batches(per exp.date) that are very different. These batches are very hard, dark in color, lack flavor and taste overcooked. This has happened several times so, if you happen get one of these bad batches, future batches may be better. It's disappointing and a waste of money but, when they are good, they are the best! I reached out to the manufacturer and they told me that all of the batches are prepared exactly the same way and essentially told me that my comments were not probable. I am not crazy, I just thought they would want to know that some batches taste VERY different...nope. I continue to 'roll the dice' but the August 05 batch is a bad one (most recent delivery) and not just via Amazon. The same batch at other retailers is bad as well, sigh.
