Good range of adjustment.

This is a great micrometer stand with far more range of adjustment than most micrometer stands. You do need to screw it or bolt it to a heavier base though. The movement of the ball is not as smooth as I might have expected or liked, but It is meant to be adjusted to where you need it and then tightened to stay in place. It does just that and so I cannot complain.

Excellent tool for trimming small objects

I use this tool for holding embedded specimens when I am trimming them prior to sectioning for electron microscopy. It is really useful for flexibly positioning the specimens at any angle, whilst still holding them firmly.

To be functional this stand needs a weighted base.

The base unit worked well, however the clamp did not clear the contour of the micrometer I was using this on (Mitutoyo 389-351) so I had to machine it for clearance. Especially when paired with the PanaVise 308 weighted base, it stays solidly in place.
