Works fine for smaller items.

So we bought a house with a fireplace last October and I had zero experience in dealing with any sort of wood. I wasn't going to use the fireplace as a primary heat source and was looking for something that would split moderately sized pieces for easier burning. Just to echo what several other people noted... This will allow you to split smaller logs pretty quickly and its definitely easy to use once you get the hang of it. If you are expecting to use this to split huge logs you will be disappointed as it wasn't designed for that purpose. I thought it was pretty well put together and have had no issues so far.

I bought this to help my husband out with wood splitting and it's worked wonders for me. I use it every day and was exactly what I was looking for!

The instructions are USELESS. Why won't the company at least put up a decent video on YouTube so users can figure out to do with the mystifying metal pin (ok, we FINALLY figured it out, but it was a struggle for me...I admit extreme ignorance in the world of tools)? Also, an explanation of the mechanics of the tool would be nice (like, "You can tell it's working if you see the holding rods emerge..." "You want to spin the twirly thingee clockwise to make the log go UP and counter...." "You want a high slant to ....and a low slant to . . .

Meant for cutting small pieces smaller. I cut small quarter pieces of a log, and after about a half a cord the metal was bent. In the trash in 1 month. But a electric 5 ton minimum or don't bother.
