Bought this for my mom after I broke her old one - and after I'd bought one for myself a few years ago. You get a nice ribbon of margarine when you drop a stick in. Straight out of the freezer, that ribbon crinkles, and butter doesn't always emerge as smoothly, even when thawed. Biggest improvement since my mom bought the original white "patent pending" model is the cap for the bottom. That cap is still a work in progress. On mine, the cap can slip off if you store the dispenser upright as pictured. Once the new bar of margarine gets broken in, residue forms on the bottom and the cap sticks better. I could hear a soft click on the newest one attaching the cap, so it seems like Max Space is beginning to address the minor problem. Keep at it, guys! It still slips off once in a while.
Well it works, for room temperature butter.

Well, I have mixed feelings about this butter dispenser.
If you keep your butter OUT of the refrigerator, or let it thaw out enough before use, this works fine.
If you keep your butter in the refrigerator, this will NOT work as intended.
If you try and fudge the system, and microwave the refrigerated butter while in this dispenser, ( about 10 seconds ) the butter on the outer edges will liquify, and squirt out as liquid everywhere. If you thaw the butter in warm water, it works better, but there is still a lot of squirting of just liquid.
Best operation, room temperature butter.

This butter Mill provides a rather thin shaving of butter that easily melts on what even you spread it upon that the item is warm or hot. The fist time we tried it was on a hot english muffin and after applying the ribbon of butter it was easily spread across the entire face of the muffin in amounts that we more than sufficient but did not provide too much butter. I would suggest just keeping a stick of butter within the mill in your refridgerator to be ready to use when you need it. Because of its ease of use and ability to spread thin ribbons of butter, I could forsee that this device would actually reduce your buter consumption.
While the Butter Mill worked very well without problems, I am not sure of how durable it will be since the screw pressure against the bottom of the mill is rather strong for the strength of semiflexible plastic used in its construction. However, since I observed no problems I am going to buy a few more for stocking stuffers at Christmas.
My rating of 5 starts is based upon the assumption that the Butter Mill will be durable enough for its purpose.

awesome. i bought another style from another maker here on amazon, it had more low profile design where you had to cut the stick of butter in half to load and it came into about four parts for cleaning. It was absolute junk, about the second time i cleaned it some part was broke and the unit wouldn't function. I tossed it in the trash cause i didn't want to figure out how to fix it....i wanted some butter.
This american made butter mill is of excellent quality. Ive run about a dozen sticks of butter through it and actually use butter more often because this product makes it easily accessible instantly straight out of the refrigerator. I bet chefs would love it too. It also has a sight gauge so you know how much butter has been dispensed. The same company has a metal one and ill buy that one next for sure.

The media could not be loaded. The Butter Mill Is a really awesome product. As in, I can't live without it product. I have to have two at all times so that I can washing one in the top rack of my dishwasher - Without going without one.
That being said, There are two versions of this on the market right now. One clearly states made in China. This one clearly states made in the United States. I'm going to tell you, you want THIS one.
The product is awesome. The video shows just how awful the other version is in comparison.
What I love about the butter mill Is that you can release a small ribbon of butter. No more messy butter dish.
We use a lot less butter with this and keep it in the cupboard for quick butter delivery use (toast, waffles, pancakes, bread.... potatoes, corn, everything!)
Tip: once you've dispensed your butter, turn the knob back 1/2 turn to release the pressure so the butter stops dispensing. It works kind of like a caulk gun in that respect....
