Great, easy upgrade to the outdoor battery-powered timer
DukeDuker✓ Verified Purchase•July 30, 2017
I purchased this timer to upgrade the timer on the Rainbird 32ETI Sprinkler Kit. This timer is really easy to program and install. With the addition of a sprinkler valve and rain sensor, the system is now really on auto-pilot. I'm able to set the watering schedule to water every 3 days, as opposed to days of the week. I can be also set it to water 2x a day every day when germinating new seeds. Best part is I can control my sprinkler system from inside the house and not have to worry about disconnecting the timer every winter.
Perfect for an Old Fart Like Me

This is my fourth one. Just bought a new house that had three different types of Rainbird controllers. Being an old fart that has difficulty remembering my name, I decided to convert all to my old controller. This one is inexpensive and extremely intuitive.
- Rotate the dial to set it up (time and date)
- Rotate the dial to one of the zones where push buttons light up so you can select
... the day
... the number of times to water that day.
- then use the up/down arrows to set duration
- Even has an automatic programmable seasonal changer for when it gets hotter in the day (haven't tried that yet)
So perfect for lawns/bushes, trees for deep watering, and fuchsia baskets for short multiple-day waterings and intuitive enough for old farts like me to remember how to change it when needed..

They have certainly made the programming a piece of cake

The one we have mounted in the green house suffered for years in the HORRIBLE TEXAS heat but kept on ticking. Finally, the LED display was just too hard to read as it suffered so much heat damage. So, got this to replace and WOW, it is sooooo much easier to program. I don't have to get out the book if I want to make a little change. Hubby was reticent when I was telling him about it (before its arrival) but when it came, he was very impressed. He is the one who programs them so it mattered to him more than me. But I love I can just do a quick WATER ALL ZONES or WATER a particular zone. EASILY without messing anything up.
Good controller and easy to convert from older brands/models.

Maybe not quite as simple to use as my old Hunter controller, but that may be my learning curve. This was very easy to install. I'd be surprised if I spent more than an hour from start to finish and that included multiple references to the instructions. Seems to have plenty of flexibility. Originally I programmed this like my old Hunter controller which allowed me to set up the run time (in minutes) for each zone and they would go in sequence. This requires actually setting up a start and stop time for each zone, so it took longer to configure, plus I wanted to leave a little room for adjusting each zone so my time frames were skewed to allow for that. For example: I set Zone 1 to run from 2:00 AM to 2:15 AM, then added another 15 minutes, so set Zone 2 to start at 2:30. This way I could adjust Zone 1 up to 15 additional minutes longer without having to reprogram all the other zones. However, you can set each zone to run on a different day and it is supposedly intelligent enough not to allow more than one zone to run at a time.
A couple additional things:
This includes an internal battery back-up. I don't know how long this lasts. The manual doesn't appear to say.
I've not hooked up my rain sensor yet.
I'm still in the learning curve on this, but so far it fits the bill just fine.
Update (07.20.17)
There are station selections on the dial (1 thru 6) where you do your programming and where you can manually run a station, which is something I do often when the temps get high and the southern exposure of my yard starts taking a beating. You do this by selecting the station on the dial, pressing the run once button, setting the run time then leave. That station runs and all is good, unless you forget to set the dial back to AUTO or OFF. If left on a station, the next time a programmed start comes around ALL the stations will cycle through. Maybe not a big issue unless you have yard work going on and several lines are tore up and geysers of water shoot out. I'd prefer this unit would default to OFF in case I forget to come back out and reset the dial.

Installed in 15 minutes

Bought this to replace an existing system from the 1980s and it was installed and programmed in 15-25 minutes. Works amazingly well, super intuitive and easy to program. I located a 7th line and have 2 valves running off 1 output
I can't imagine that a commercial timer would be any better than this. For the price, looks, and convenience it's a perfect item.
Like other have said the wire connections are awkward. They use spring loaded connections which are push-in and tricky to remove the wires. Screw terminals would be better.
