Works perfectly for me. We were looking to replace an older Downy ball that we had been using for 15+ years. Not sure how you lose one of these things, but we managed to do it. Some of the reviews here mention that the stopper wouldn't come out for them during the wash, so I was a little concerned that maybe the newer models were made with a tighter fit. I'm glad to report that this hasn't been a problem for us. It looks a little different than the older one, but it works just as well. Very happy.

Does the job very well. We have hard water, so I often put vinegar as a water softener in the built-in fabric softener dispenser, and I like to put the actual fabric softener in the Downy Ball. When the original Downy Ball I had purchased at a grocery store wore out (the rubber plug deteriorated), I couldn't seem to find it in a store anymore. Was thrilled to find it on Amazon, with a better price (bought a 3 pack, gave one away).

Our washer is new, but old fashioned. Dislike all those sensors and front loaders. It came with no softener dispenser. The Downy ball is our best solution since it's impossible to interrupt the rinse cycle. When the ball did not function properly, we had to go online to find out only one cycle for casual clothes had the rinse method to allow the Downy to dispense. Once all the "machine" bugs were worked out, we have Downy in our laundry again. We missed you Downy.

I know it says to only use with the Downy ultra, but we use it with all fabric softeners and it works great. Remember to throw it in at the bottom of your wash and you don't need to fill it all the way. Its so much easier than remembering to go back and add fabric softener before the last cycle (especially if you're working with an older washing machine).
