The Goldie Locks of Air Hammers.... Not too hot, Not too cold....
Derek W.•February 23, 2018
I love this Air Hammer. I'm a dealership mechanic and I primarily use this tool to remove axle shafts from hubs, supercharger drive "snouts" , and various suspension work and loosening of "stuck" components. this is not the heaviest of duty air hammers but it is balanced, controllable, and is comfortable in the hand. For the money it's hard to go wrong with this one. Power is tunable through a knob at the bottom of the handle. I really like this tool as I can use it with finesse, I can dial back the power when working on "sensitive" components or go full blast for heavier duty work. It has met and or exceeded all my expectations at this price point. I used to have the bad boy Snap-On air hammer (PH3050), but it was very much on or off and it really hit hard (not always a good thing). If you need an air hammer for light to medium duty work that is adjustable and controllable do not hesitate to buy this unit.
Exceptional performance!

I was weary about this air hammer for the price! What a pleasant surprise when I used it. I had a Craftsman and another of brand air hammer. I bought this as a reserve/alternate.
My project: removal of upper and lower ball joint assemblies that are rusted, ruptured and stuck on the knuckle.
I tried using my other air hammers but unfortunately, the assemblies didn't even budge.
Connected the Ingersoll Rand air hammer, placed it on and pulled the trigger three times, BAM the ball joint was free. I had a smile and I was excited!! It cut down the time and effort significantly!!!
But make sure you have ear protection because this can be loud!
I am very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone who wants safe effort, time and money!

it lasted about 4 hours of constant use (I treated it like a jackhammer) before the air coupling fit popped off ...

This air hammer is alright. I had two from Harbor Fright and broke both in less than 10 minutes. This Ingersoll Rand one, it lasted about 4 hours of constant use (I treated it like a jackhammer) before the air coupling fit popped off and sent the little bearing ball a hundred feet into the unknown of the shop. Well I cut some old bearings apart and put a new ball in and it worked just fine. Well then I tried to take the chisel out, but the chisel was stuck, it got chipped from the vibrations so I had to take apart the front of the air hammer to get the chisel out. I got the chisel out, then filed down the edges and polished it, so now it doesn't get stuck. Used it for another hour, then the female part of the air house got damaged and I had to replace that too.
Long story short, I treated this air hammer like a jackhammer for ~8 hours. It "broke" in a variety of ways, but I was able to repair it every time and it still works as good as new. I'll take the easy repairs over the Harbor Fright one breaking almost instantly.

Much better than a no-name one

My cheapo $15 air hammer wasn't doing the job for me any more (moved up to larger equipment repair) and going from that no-name one to this one is like going from a Ranger to an F-350. Bigger, heavier, and stronger all around. I also really like the quick-action chisel retainer, far better than the old spring-style. If you do a lot of maintenance work, and think you may have use for an air hammer, do yourself a favor, get a good one right away. The cheapo ones work just well enough to make you realize you should have gotten something better. I work on farm equipment, and there are times I don't know how I would have gotten things apart (short of a cutting torch) without this hammer. If doesn't come with a case, but that isn't enough for me to knock off a star from this excellent tool.
So where do I begin with the issues!

1. The item is missing the claimed to be included 3 pack of chisels
2. I tried my own quality Cornwell chisels and kobalt chisels and they both have issues entering but more so removing due to bits on the detent balls in the quick release head.
3. Have yet to try under pressure but the trigger was stuck and took quite a bit of force to push before is sort of snapped into the operating position.
4. Grip wasn't put on fully (which isn't the biggest deal after all the other issues)
5. Last but not least the air pressure adjustment is horrific, the threading is so bad and loaded with burs that turning it in and out to adjust pressure at the gun is a joke.
Let me say this, I've used this exact gun in shops, I have a feeling they have changed vendors on some of the parts in assembling this product which now it's lacking in many areas. Sadly one with years of use on it feels much better and reliable even after being dropped, thrown in tool box 150 times and hors of use that I figured I'd buy myself my own. Sad mistake, maybe I should have went with their better model or maybe that's why they were having a fire sale st $40 to unload them? I have no idea but I'm so disappointed. Sitting here is an incomplete purchase that feels like garbage. I love IR (Ingersoll Rand) but this just blows me away, the company has seemed to have taken a turn for the worse.....
UPDATE: sent out replacement, and sadly the se one pair is as bad as the first! If you're looking for quality that these compare to, shooot you might as well go spend $20 at HF and use the heck out of them till they break, at least you get something that works well for a while. These are garbage right out of the box. I'm no snot or stickler looking for a $480 snap on set, just a decent pair of what IR used to be! Open it up, use it for many year, it wears out and you buy a new tool or better yet rebuild what you've got. Here's the main issue and I'm done, I give up... the shaft that the chisels sit down in is so distorted and full of burs and marks that when you screw up the easy removal head, it A: doesn't line up properly and B: makes it so difficult to slide the shaft of the chisels down it because it's so rough and poorly made, fresh just hone it out slightly and you might have a half way decent tool. I even attempted to throw on an old spring head and oil up the hole and still the bits get hung up! It's a defect! It's a machining flaw! And I feel like IR knows and is just selling these off cheap! That's just my feeling, hey you be the judge, but if I'm swearing by HF over IR from a guy who owns every name brand tool, there's got to be an issue! Wow what a waste of time!
