Fresh flavor, really good price.

The headline for my review pretty much says it all - these ground peppers have a good robust (fresh) flavor, and the price is phenomenal considering the price for unground sansho peppercorns.
No salt - Citrusy and numbing

Disregard what a reviewer noted about this pepper being salty. There are only dried sansho peppers... nothing else.
Very citrusy notes, mostly lime. The pepper isn't very hot but does produce a numbing sensation to the tongue. Excellent on grilled eel and fish.
This reminds me of lemon pepper.

This is okay and I am glad I tried it but I have not had time to experiment on fish or chicken yet. I think it might be better with those dishes. I gave it a four star because I'm not sure if I like it. The lemon flavor was too strong for what I paired it with.
Wonderfully weird.

Strangely addictive, this green pepper is not everyone's idea of a great spice. I got it because I have a cookbook on Japanese grill recipes, also available on Amazon: The Japanese Grill: From Classic Yakitori to Steak, Seafood, and Vegetables

My first impression, after removing the lid and getting a good whiff, I was blown away by how intensely aromatic this pepper is. Unmistakably citrus, with undertones of mint. The aroma reminded me a lot of Murray and Lanman's old splash-on cologne called Florida Water. For those not familiar with that, there's a slight similarity to the European cologne called 4711. The taste was citrus with an earthy sweetness and a slight peppery bite. But the most interesting thing, this pepper has a bizarre effect on the tongue, creating a mild numbing/tingling sensation. That's sampling the ground pepper straight from the jar. I don't know if it would have that same effect when used in Asian meals. A very unique product, and indispensable for certain Japanese dishes.
