Effective & very durable for the price

I really like this HEPA filter. I've been using it in my Master Bedroom for daily. It's effective & very durable for the price. I ended buying a second unit to use in my office. BTW, I was able to change the filter since Amazon sells a filter that fits this perfectly--Holmes HEPA Type Filter HAPF30D-U2, Filter A, 2 Pack

I need a light breeze blowing on me, for me to fall sleep. The Bionaire BAP1412-U fits the bill. There are 3 settings. I use the lowest setting because it is the quietest, and it allows just enough air on me (from a distance of 3+ feet) to feel fresh air on my face. Setting #2 is twice the wind, which I like a more, but the sound is a little louder. Please note, on a hot night I have fallen asleep easily on level #2. Setting #3 is a good size wind and is probably meant cleaning the air in the room. The sound of the fan blowing on Level #3 is to much to be able to fall asleep. That is if you keep it on a nightstand or near the head of the bed. Further away should be no problem. I don't have allergies so I can not report if it cleans the air of airborne particles. I have used this product for the last 2 years.

Like that it's easy to clean, but you can't place it so that the front or back is blocked. The one I replaced this one with had the exhaust fan out the top.
Also, there needs to be a setting between the lowest and the middle one. Lowest isn't enough, middle is too loud, and the high setting sounds like a jet engine. Not for desk top or bed side use.

I purchased three Bionaire BAP1412-U PERMAtech Mini Tower Air Cleaners, due to living in a huge complex with many smokers. They are on 24/7 and work great. They also work for eliminating access dust and dander (I have a cat who sheds, also).
