I have a Generac stand by generator and do not want certain items running when it takes over in the event of a power failure, ie window air conditioners, and basement dehumidifiers.
I have certain circuits hardwired to be shed in the event of a power failure, and use these outlets to keep other items from coming on when the generator takes over. When the power is back on, I simply reset these outlets.
It saves fuel and helps control electrical load on the generator if it were to come on due to power failure, and I'm not home to address it.

I bought this to protect some rather expensive vacuum tube audio equipment that can be damaged in the event of a short power outage, or 'blip', which we seem to experience way more than necessary, thank you National Grid. When the power fails, this instantly shuts off and you must manually reset it, which is exactly what you want for this application. It works flawlessly and I am going to buy a couple more.

Great product. I have a heat wrap on my Fig trees for winter. The heat wrap strongly recommends a GFI as close the the Heat wrap as possible. I ran an extension cord 50' to the greenhouse, put this GFI on the end and it works perfect! What a great solution. I was going to put in a GFI plug but with that much extension it would likely be too much. The heat wrap (also from Amazon) has a light in the plug so I can easily tell if it's still getting power.
