This is an easy to follow book with cute and simple tunes one may play immediately.

The only negative I have, is that the book is a little flimsy. Being that it is for my 11 year old, I fear it might get roughed up a bit after several uses.It is easy to follow, and has step by step instructions for using the flutophone.
f you like those "old" books, this is the one for you.

It's an old-school song book. My students would not find this useful at all. To a person with music knowledge it would be rather simple, but otherwise, it's not a good fit for my 3rd grade students. The most I can do with it is modify it to make sense in my classroom. Most songs have too many different notes in them, right from the beginning. I have no idea why, but most of the songs are in 3/4 time, which in itself is a challenge for a beginning player of any instrument. If you want to use it to pick out a few songs, I suppose it's not useless. I haven't used a thing from it yet. I
Great book for a great first musical instrument

I bought this book along with a Flutaphone as a surprise "big" birthday gift for my aging sister; we both learned to play the Flutaphone in elementary school as a routine part of our grade school curriculum beginning in 4th grade (Palo Alto, CA). I didn't realize Flutaphones were still available until I saw one in a nostalgia-type gift shop. Who knew they are also made in black......I ordered a black one for her, the usual white ones for the rest of us to serenade Happy Birthday to her.

The book is easy to read and a great way to learn/relearn how to play the Flutaphone and read music. You learn about timing as well, eighth/quarter/half/whole notes. I feel so lucky to have had music in my life at a very early age, and understand why this book and instrument were used to teach us. Loads of fun for young kids and parents. In my opinion, I wouldn't give this book/instrument to someone under 7-8 y/o unless they were pretty quiet, obedient/compliant kids; you might object to the rather high pitched/easily transmitted sounds of the instrument if tooted loudly/harshly/indescriminately. For those kids, get a kazoo and wait awhile before starting this.......

My mom wanted this Flutophone instructional book for her grandkids because she went ahead and bought them all a Flutophone. Oh Joy!! You should hear her house when they are all blowing on those things. Well, she's been teaching them with the book and it is actually starting to sound like something other than crazy noise. If you have Flutophones in your home, definitely get this book so that your ears don't acream back at you.
