Bad transformers right out of the box
jeepmanjr✓ Verified Purchase•August 4, 2017
Bought two sets. Bad transformers right out of the box. Would work for a little while, transformers would get hot and shut down. Was running only 9 of the 10 lights per string. Moonrays customer service was great. No hassles, sent me two new transformers and 20 replacement bulbs. I really appreciated that. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks later one of the replacement transformers quit working. During that time I had nothing but problems with these lights. Out of 18, sometimes as many as 8 or 9 would not come on due to bad connections. The way these connect to the power wire sucks! So I'd have to tap the light to get it to come on. Or if that didn't work, disassemble the housing and fiddle with the wire. This was literally an every evening occurrence. So when the transformer went belly up it gave me the excuse I was looking for to pull them all and throw them in the dumpster. Total waste of money. One star for the great customer service.
NICE FOR THE $PRICE$

Nice lights for the money! All plastic construction so I am hoping they are treated with UV protection... If so they should last quite a few years. If they are treated then they will disintegrate in a couple yrs, for the price its a nice set, I bought 3 sets and have all 30 lights connected to one transformer that came with the first set. I replaced the 4 watt incandescent bulbs with 5 watt LED bulbs which only uses 1 watt of power. so I am getting 30 lights x 5 watts= 150 watts of lights and using only 30 watts of the 40 watts the transformer is designed for.
I have had NO problems with the transformer staying on, it has worked perfect out of the box.
After I fed the wire through the holder I used a file and sanded down the wire which made it thinner making it much easier to make the connection to the metal prongs.
I connected my lead wire to the transformer and put duct tape over the sensor so it thought it was dark and powered on, started connecting each light once lit you can push the wire up with a flat head screw driver so set the wire in the prongs and then set the lock screw to help hold the wire in place and then set it down on the provided stake. Remember to leave a few inches of wire between the lights in case you have to work on one in the future. With that said 50 feet that comes with the set is not nearly enough so be prepared to purchase more wire..
Happy lighting...

Please do not waste your time purchasing these lights. If you have purchased and installed landscaping lights, then you would really want to cuss out the person who designed these lights. It probably did not cost but $5 in plastic materials to make this kit. I usually try to give the manufacturers a break on some things but this kit is ridiculous.
1. The tops do not really screw on tight.
2. You have to literally daisy chain each light by running the wire up and down the pole for each light.
3. I had to use a pair of needle nose pliers and a flat head screwdriver to force the wires to make contact with metal. They have a plastic widget that you supposed to turn and make the wire connect.
These lights should have a market price of $15 and should come with your favorite beverage because you will need it when you are done trying to figure it out.

With some modification a very happy user...

First off, Amazon likes to consolidate products to the point where you get reviews for very different products in one review section - this is for the Moonrays 3 Tier Diecast Walkway lights.
Another thing I will say right off the bat is I planned on converting / modifying these lights to LEDs and I have an entire yard (about 15 lights with a mixture of these and the 1W spots unmodified) on a 60W transformer. I haven't experienced any issues but for the most part I am just reviewing this as a fixture. Here I have been very happy with the all metal design and haven't noticed any unusual wear from being in the elements in New England through the winter.
The best modification I can suggest is the following - to swap the bulbs with these 3W G4 bulbs (yes, I know this is not the right type but more on this later) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MA5Z3DM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and toss the bulb that comes with it. I specifically wanted these G4 bulbs because they are 100% encased in silicone and are much more water resistant (I'm surprised the description doesn't say more about it). Now a G4 bulb has two pins and a T5 has a wedge base but what I did was insert the G4 pins into the T5 slots (polarity doesn't matter) and put a glob of silicone RTV all around the base to both hold it in place and try to seal the exposed area of the connector. So far has worked like a charm and even had a couple of these kicked over - just stand them back up and they are good!
Attached is a picture but keep in mind I used a very long exposure for the camera setting - they appear brighter in the picture than they actually are but I am very happy with them for both planter lights as well as walkway lights. Also, in the photo, any lights pointing up at trees or flags are the Moonrays 1W and the rest are these 3 tier. https://smile.amazon.com/Moonrays-95557-Voltage-Outdoor-Landscape/dp/B006PEE4VQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499288330&sr=8-1&keywords=moonrays+1w. I used a dusk / dawn power switch and a vanilla 12V IP67 waterproof transformer in a NEMA box with clear door (I originally had the moonrays "outdoor" transformer which lasted 3 months) and am very happy with the look and reliability of everything. Not a single light has gone bad and after ditching the Moonray's transformer all is good.

Sadly and due to a lot of rain, I did not put the lights up until after the return window was closed on this item. Of the ten lights in the package, initially only five worked. By day two, only four of the ten lights were still working. I pierced and re-pierced the wire at the light bases and went to great ends to get any current flowing to the bulb connections at all. I checked each of the bulbs repeatedly as well. Either the bulbs or the bases are defective. I have put a lot of landscaping lighting up over the years and have never encountered a set so resistant to functioning correctly.
