Thai Tea Kettle
CleancutguySeptember 12, 2017
Fantastic Thai tea kettle. I like that you can move the handle down, so you can fill it up with water easier. I have several Zebra brand cookware, and they all working great. Some people find that whisling is too low, but I never boil water that high.
Nicely made, one-piece body, no plastic contacts water, but whistle too soft.

I returned the first one I received, as it had a number of small discolored scuffs/abrasions on the plastic handle, and the join of the top and bottom halves of the plastic handle was a bit sharp. I ordered it again and the replacement was better, but still had a slight surface scuff of about 1/2 inch on top the plastic handle, and the joins of the halves of the plastic handle we're not as sharp and the side of the handle where it was a little more noticeable was on the fingers side rather than the palm side when gripped by a right-hand person, so it was not felt as much.

As far as the kettle proper, it's nicely made, and is one of the few available that seems to be a one piece body and has no plastic parts that encounter water or steam directly. It pours with a good balance, and a nice flow once you flip the little spout flap up. My main complaint about this tea pot is that the whistle is so soft it cannot be heard in another room, and one can be barely be sure that it's reached full boil from the whistle. I wish there was some way to increase the loudness of the whistling sound, as I find myself using my old, nicely designed Copco tea pot (also made in Thailand), which has a nice loud whistle (and and a stainless steel rimmed glass lid, wide base, and spout angled at 45° but with a opening cut horizontally, so it's nicely tapered--I got it at Target maybe 15 or more years ago, selected among several designs on display, and I've never seen this design elsewhere again).

I suppose the lid is tight so that it is secure when pouring, but it is a bit tight to remove. I think I could correct this by bending in the 4 tabs that secure the lid a little bit (update--I did bend them in a little bit, so the lid can now be placed and removed more easily). One should be careful when placing the lid on that the whistle hole is not on the side of the tea pot toward your wrist when you grip the handle so your hand does not encounter the hot steam venting from the whistle.
but I haven't had an issue with hearing it and I love the softness since I have a new infant

Exactly as described. The whistle is a bit light, but I haven't had an issue with hearing it and I love the softness since I have a new infant.
Never got to use! Handle does not stay up! Instructions say electric stove only!

I purchased this hoping for the tedious search on a quality teapot to end, no such luck. First, the handle does not stay up, so when you attempt to pour boiling water and it falls down, you scald yourself! Second, I read the instructions and never got to use it, the instructions specifically say electric stove only. I own a gas stove top. Waiting on the seller to refund as well as shipping. I would've never purchased this had I known it would not be able to be used on a gas stove top.
Not What I Hoped For

This is shiny and attractive, but, as others mentioned, the whistle is very faint. Therefore, I missed it one day while engrossed in some project, and the bottom burned a little. It cleaned up fine, but never sat really flat on the burner after that. I also disliked the fact that the handle swings from side to side...doesn't seem safe while you are pouring boiling water! I replaced it recently with a pretty Paula Deen kettle which I LOVE!!!
