Best hiking carving set

I used to hike with a tackle box of tools so i can carve at camp or on breaks. This has almost everything you need and fits in your pocket. Definitely spendy for what it is, but if you are an enthusiast it is worth the money. I haven't been able to find anything else like this of this quality

I love this thing soooo much. I love being able to go from a whittling knife to a chisel with the flip of a blade. I carry it everywhere and jump on any situation to whittle a wizard into a branch. I use it more than my nice detail blades. I waited a month to review to get a feel for it and I can say it my favorite carving knife I own. I don't use all the blades that much but the V tool, the blade, and the chisel are fantastic.

I'm a fairly novice whittler, and I got the Carvin' Jack multi-tool for use mainly on campouts and such. For that, it has been 100% perfect. It fits well in most any adolescent or adult hand, and while the locking _shouldn't_ be strictly necessary, I find that as a beginner, it calms my mind somewhat (and is therefore a nice feature).
With this pocket-size tool, you have all you need to do a remarkably broad range of carving and whittling, no matter your location.
I did lubricate the hinges with Ballistol, and work each tool repeatedly, in order to help ease their operation a bit. That was a tremendous help with the somewhat stiff operation the tool had at purchase. I've used it a LOT since its purchase, and while I've stropped the main blade once or twice, everything has kept a great edge.
I STRONGLY recommend this tool!

Some conflicting information in reviews here, just wanted to clarify. This is for the full model with all folding tools.
The selection and quality of the tools on this are great. Durable, sharp and very well shaped. Polishing tray and compound were included.
Tools do lock open, you have to lift another tool to unlock and close.
Tools do not lock closed. But they're under some friction and should not open in your pocket. However, if you do not close a tool in completely it can stick out and bite you, so be careful when putting this away.
Opening the tools is a little fiddly, depending on which tool you're trying to open, but definitely not nailbreaking. It works well for me. However, there's a tendency for some tools to stick together and open partly or fully together, and when these are razor-sharp blades you want to watch what you're doing. I always wear gloves and haven't been bitten so far.
I really, really like this tool and would definitely buy it again!

The Carvin' Jack is a great pocket knife tool set. All the tools lock into position and this is extra good because they are razor sharp. They are also strong and do flex a little. The knife works best but the gouge and the chisel are useful. The V tool has a bend in the shank and is hard to control easily. Basically this is a unique pocket tool set but additional mini or micro tools are going to be needed to really carve professional carvings. However, the knife is an excellent tool and can do most of the major shaping and some of the detail work. If you are going to be carving wood spirits or faces etc you will need other additional tools to pull it off. If you enjoy basic whittling then this tool will work for you. Personally the tool was worth it just for the sharp, easy to use, locking knife. It's amazing to me that there are not more locking carving knives available. There are many high quality knives out there but not many locking ones and those that do lock, for the most part, have too much length to the blade. The leather sheath is heavy duty and you can slide it on your belt or slip it in a pocket. Overall this is a really nice and well made tool that will, I hope, last many years.
