ok I'm not a cellist... but... I'm not new when it comes to stringed interments, I expected a cheep product because I bought a cheep one as my first to see if I like it. came packaged nicely... no dings...no scratches....string height is ridicules...there is no reason this should have left the factory like this..1/8 in at the nut and 1/4 at the bridge. bow seems to be ok....the resin is no good out of the box...im going to be contacting the company that makes it and putting in complaints even a cheap interment should be playable....a few YouTube videos and some sand paper and it will be ok.
After contacting the company I am even more displeased ..." I'm sorry you feel that way" is how my problems where addressed. This is after
3 emails and I finally called . the customer service rep stated she had nor record of the email and it was submitted through there sight. this company sold a poorly made product. a Wal-Mart kids interment would have been a better buy.

Don't get one of these if you live in a dry climate.

If you live in a dry climate don't risk it.
We're in CO and the person I took it to, to get the bridge (which was for the size smaller, btw) set up & strings done said that 7 out of 10 of these Cecilios end up having the fingerboard warp in a few weeks due to the dry climate here in CO. Said it would cost about $300 to fix that. So maybe if you're in a more humid climate, but I didn't like those odds, so sent it back. Kudos to Amazon for very easy return & no $$ lost!

Great instrument for the price. Buy new rosin before playing.

My girlfriend wanted to learn cello so I bought this for her to practice on. Looks better than I thought it would. My only complaint is that it comes with no directions on putting it together (the bridge comes detached). After we spent about 30 minutes figuring this out we tried to rosin up the bow. The rosin that comes with this isn't very good. We had to go to our local music store and buy some.
Overall this is a great purchase for beginners. She's downstairs playing it right now and it sounds great!

Expect a damaged product

I purchased this as an adult self-learner who has a little bit of violin experience. I specifically wanted an inexpensive cello that I could "try out" that I wouldn't feel too bad about if I decided to stick only with violin. Also having two young kids in the house, I wanted something that I wouldn't have to worry too much about if it got scratched or otherwise damaged. I wasn't expecting great quality, just a cello-shaped object that I could learn on.
Well, I didn't really expect it to be damaged on arrival. The first one's neck was completely snapped just above the body as soon as I unpacked it, and the rivet in the stand's hinge was broken. The box it was in had no obvious major damage, so this was either due to improper packing (and some kind of unbalanced weight being applied during shipping), or it was like that when shipped. Amazon is processing the return for that item now.
Second try: better, and I ended up keeping it, BUT the fingerboard was completely detached from the neck. It was obviously glued at some point, but either with not enough glue, or something had forced the fingerboard to snap off. Fortunately neither the cello itself or the fingerboard were damaged, so it only took a few drops of inexpensive hide glue to make my own amateur repair.
The strings, as has been mentioned, are not the best quality, and I may replace them soon, but I am able to tune the instrument (which can be tough to do on any inexpensive instrument), and for a cheap student cello, I think it sounds quite nice.
If you're considering buying this, know what to expect: it may take a few returns to get a working instrument, and even then it may not arrive in perfect condition. If all you need is a "beater" instrument and you're willing to put up with a little hassle to get it, this is at least an inexpensive option.
