Exactly what I wanted! The OLFA 12" Rotating Self-Healing Mat is the perfect size. Just large enough to give ample room for cutting, but small enough to pop into a bag to take to classes and workshops. It spins easily, and contrary to some of the other reviews, mine had no out-gassing odors. Love it!

This product rotates smoothly. However, repeated cuts in the same direction using a rotary cutter proved to be too much for the mat. I am cutting blocks for a quilt that have required repeated cuts in the same direction and the mat now has slivers of material of coming off. I wasn't even 1/3 of the way through cutting all the blocks! I was using a Fiskars rotary blade, and would hope that that wouldn't be enough of a difference to cause this problem. I generally leave positive feedback for most products I purchase, but unfortunately it seems I will (hopefully) only be able to finish this one project before the mat will be unusable. I love the rotating aspect, but unfortunately the mat itself is of poor quality :\

I was excited to receive it until I took it out of the package and it smelled. The rubber/chemical odor was so strong that I wasn't able to use it for very long before I got a headache. It spent so much time in the garage or outside it was almost useless. It was also difficult to rotate so I will be trying another brand. This is the second OLFA product I've gotten that had the awful chemical small.

This is a gift for my mother in law. Her quilting group has been eye-ing the rotating mat for a while. She couldn't believe it when we gave her as her birthday present. She's already using it and loves it!! Now, the ladies in the quilting group are getting their own after she shows off hers! Of course, theirs aren't as big as this one. I would recommend this one if you're getting one. It will fit squares up to 16 inches plus seam allowance without having to move the piece around.

So far, so good. I had the smaller 12" rotating mat and liked it (it's practically worn out!), so thought I'd give this larger one a try so I can trim larger blocks. The smaller one definitely had a "turning" area in the middle, but it did not bother my rotary cutting. So, I looked forward to using the larger mat. It is lighter in weight than the small mat, and I like that. It does NOT have that feel of the middle being an issue where it turns, like the smaller one did. It is much easier to move out of the way when it is not needed. I've used it for cutting 6 layers of fabric with a rotary cutter and have had absolutely no issues with it, in spite of it having a lighter feel. If it lasts half as long as my smaller mat, then I';; certainly buy it again.
