It appears to work quite well. I passed it three times up the length of my chimney and a whole lot of black dust ended up in the wood stove when I was done. I used it roof-top down. I recommend that approach. Despite the extensive data provided that you can do it from below, I was not convinced, and after seeing how dirty the rods got in the process, I am glad not to have them in my living room. I think inside-up sweeping would be a big mess despite the plastic they provide for you to tape over the opening of your fireplace. I don't know how to tell if this was as good a job as a 250$ chimney sweep, but it sure cost me a lot less and I can use the stuff again next year. I guess if I bought a fiberoptic camera and looked down the pipe..... but I think we will skip that option.
RCH205 Sooteater Rotary Chimney Cleaning System.... It was almost too easy!

RCH205 Sooteater Rotary Chimney Cleaning System It was almost too easy!
After deciding to go up on the roof, the only hard part was removing the chimney cap. After that it was simply a matter of snapping on the extensions as I "drilled" down the pipe. The chimney pipe has two 45's in it to get around the peak beam, but it just bent as I pushed it up and down "polishing as I went along. I might add, the bottom pipe is a telescoping double walled model, and prior to going up on the roof I slid it up into itself, and placed a small box under it with two short pieces of re-bar pushed through to form a cross at the open top of the box. I lowered the pipe on to the re-bar, then covered the opening with an old towel. Now when I went up to the roof and started cleaning out the pipe, all the debris went right into the box with little cleanup after. Well worth the reasonable price... and free shipping with "Prime"

Typically I need to wait for a nice day weather wise to get up on the roof to clean the chimney. Not now that I have the sooteater. Rainey day in Ohio and had the day off work so decided to try the sooteater out. Very pleased with the performance. Easy to use and was able to clean the entire chimney of my wood burning stove from inside the house with little mess to deal with when using my shop vac. Took about the same amount of time but removed the hazard of getting on roof and the sooteater did a better job than the wire brush. With the wire brush I always had a pinch point where the chimney went trough the roof and I really had to force the wire brush through. The sooteater had no problem navigating the pinch point and easily went up through the chimney. Wish I'd bought this thing sooner. Glad I went with the two pack extension rods because I needed them both.
Very good but not perfect.

Great concept and idea. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because the rods themselves got gouged during the first use in a spiral pattern from rubbing against the edge of the chimney cleaning entrance point. If they worked a bit better without damaging themselves (will still probably last and work for quite a few more cleanings) then I would give them 5 stars. Still overall a great product that works great.
Cleaned the stainless steel liner spotless in a matter of minutes without climbing onto the roof!

Use it on my wood burning insert stove. The rods can easily get scratched on the edge of the hearth and entrance to the flue. I taped some cardboard around these areas and eliminated the scoring of the rods. Cleaned the stainless steel liner spotless in a matter of minutes without climbing onto the roof! I loosened the set screw holding the plastic whips and slid them towards one end allowing me to get a spare set of whips for my 6" diameter liner.
