Awesome way to change locks on rental
20 seconds--DONE!

I bought this product after researching how it worked on YouTube tutorials. That helped me BEFORE I made the decision to make this purchase. Excellent choice. This house when we purchased it back in 2017 already had Kwikset SmartKey doob knobs and deadbolts installed. It took literally 20 seconds or less from start to finish to re-key my first lock! I re-keyed 5 locks that day. Then, I purchased 2 new Kwikset SmarktKey door knobs for my shed. Re-keyed them separately. The locks on my house are all set to one key, while the shed locks are set to a different key. I deliberately wanted it that way for personal reasons. The instructions provided are precise and clear. This is exactly what you need if you have an ex-spouse, partner, family, roommate, old friend, etc. who has a key to your place and you want a quick solution to end the problem of their entrance without buying new door knobs--answer, re-key your Kwikset SmartKey door knobs and deadbolts with this set! Done!! Also Kwikset SmartKey door knobs are easy to install. Totally worth it! I totally recommend this product, and suggest buying a spare kit--because peace of mind is PRICELESS.

Always Re-key When You Move Into a New House
Thomas L.✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 5, 2023
So recently moved and there were about three different keys for various doors around the house. I bought this kit which came with 4 keys cut the same and 2 keys cut a different way. I rekeyed all the doors with the cut used in the 4 keys so now I just use that key to open all the doors. I'm not sure what they other 2 keys are suppose to be used for but I imagine if you have guests, you can key your door with the cut used in the 2 keys so when they leave and forget to give back your key or worse lose the key, you can just switch the lock back to the cut used in the original 4 keys and would lose sleep with someone else having the key to your house. Now i wish they made pad locks like this so i can have one key for all the padlocks around the house...
Dead easy, as long as you FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!

This set contains two sets of keys (four of the silver main ones, and then two of the bronze "alternates") along with a kwikset rekeying tool (which is just a small flat metal rod - if you have something else that is rigid and about the same size and shape, you don't specifically need it) and directions for rekeying.

Now, I bought this knowing I wouldn't be able to rekey as easily as the directions said, since, thanks to some poor planning, I no longer had any keys that fit my lock. Using a few easy youtube tutorials, though, I was able to rekey without the original key in about half an hour (and that counts taking the whole lock assembly apart first!). It's very doable, even for the non-DIY-inclined - which is great, because even if you do have the original key, if you fail to follow the rekey instructions correctly, you can end up in the same position I did. Does that suggest the strongest security? Eh, probably not. But this isn't a review for the lock - just these tools, and they work great :).

All of the silver keys match each other well and work smoothly in the lock. I tried the rekey tool to rekey the lock to the bronze and back to the silver and it's very easy - as long as you *follow the directions completely*. Seriously, don't end up with a lock that matches no keys...while it is technically a fixable issue, it's a lot more irritating than just reading the thing in the first place.
