What a MESS!

The whole point of a removable bowl is that it stays put when in use, but it also easy to remove and refill. Well, it's sturdy alright! Too sturdy! It is very difficult to get the bowl in and out. It's not just snug, it's wicked tight! If you are looking for a food bowl, this might work for you (if your animal eats all the food before you need to pull it out). But it is an awful water bowl. If there is any water left in the bowl, it will spill all over when pulling it out to refresh the water. Also, you can't fill it with water before replacing the bowl either, because it's impossible to do without spilling water everywhere.
Solid and sturdy, but BIG SAFETY issue, sharp protruding ends on bracket! Keep bowl in bracket at all times.

Likes: Very solid, easy to attach to a standard cage, and I like the solid metal bowl that very securely snaps into the bracket. Perfect size for a 36" cage and smaller dogs.
DON'T like: as others have mentioned, this could be a safety nightmare for your pet if you ever forget to put the bowl in place. See pictures - the clamp that holds the bowl has very sharp metal ends that could easily poke your pet in the eye or somewhere else and do serious damage/injury, especially if you have an active or jumpy pet.
This was a BIG design miss by the company who manufactures these - they could at least coat the ends with rubber or some other soft compound to offer some protection. Not sure how this got past the design phase like this.

High risk of injury: BEWARE

The quality of materials is absolutely excellent; mounting hardware is very well made and welds are also excellent. I'm giving this one star because the risk of injury is very high with this product: If the bowl is removed the ends of the retaining clip (the C shaped mount that holds the bowl) has two very sharp exposed ends that stick out into the crate. (If the bowl is in place this is not an issue.) This could have been easily addressed in production by any number of methods including adding a smooth steel button at the end or finishing in such a way that the ends of the clamp are safe. i have a shop with proper equipment so I was able to grind and buff these smooth, but I realize most people won't have this option. I'm a retired veterinarian and I've seen lots of injuries from items less dangerous, and for this one reason I am strongly advising against buying this item.
Water we have here?

Great product. I think it could be better though as the latching mechanism is rusting but I love that the bowl is removable without having to remove the entire holder from the kennel. Good design.
When the bowl is removed, it does leave the edges of the holder exposed and this could be dangerous I guess. I only take the bowl off to clean and fill it, and I trust my dog to not jam her face into a metal object so it doesn't concern me much but each buyer should consider this for themselves.

Love These Dog Bowls to Attach to the Crate
JenRog✓ Verified Purchase•September 26, 2016
I used to have dog bowls just in the bottom of the crates for the dogs. Our dogs have to have food and water always available even I run out for a few hours. We can't leave them roaming so I crate them while we are gone. Every day when I came back the food was dumped all over and the water spilled. I needed something to prevent the spills.
These water dishes attach to the crates we have and are perfect for water and food. I have 4 20oz bowls for little Chihuahuas each less than 5lbs. I could have gone with smaller bowls, but this way I don't have to fill them all the way and I am so happy with no spills. This size is perfect. Even when they move the food around the bowl to get the pieces they want, none spills out. Also, the water doesn't splash out because I only have to fill it part way.
I am so happy with these stainless steel bowls and the ease in which I can take the bowls in and out. The bowls are really secure for this size dog and I suggest only removing and replacing to wash when they are empty otherwise the water or food can spill from tilting the bowls.
I purchased the 2-quart bowls for the chicken coop. They are great for oyster shells or laying granules that you don't want spread all over the composting in the coop. The hens can peck away at the bowls and they don't spill. They even jump up on them and they stay securely attached to the fencing.
