If I was female, I would have this things babies.
Its all I could ask for in a hat.
The interior mesh is what rests against your head, and the material you see sits loosely above it. It has 6 vents around the sides, this all combines to give you incredible airflow on hot days. The brim is about 3 inches around, and 4 in the back, giving good shade amd keeping the hot sun off you. The adjustable band insures the perfect fit, and keeps it on you, with the aid of the removable neck tie.
The brim is reinforced with a flexible plastic band which helps it maintain shape and more or less resist the wind. Brisk wind is fine, a stiff wind will see the brim flop. It has to be quite windy for that though. It also floats due to foam in the band.
Dark color on the bottom of the brim resists reflecting light into your eyes.
Only negative? It looks ridiculous. But you wont be wearing this for style will you? Its for function, and it does that exceedingly well.

Nice hat, but arrived folded and creased. I also purchased an Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero (designed for rain) at the same time, which arrived in a large envelope and was not folded and creased. The Sun Hut arrived folded with creases that caused the brim to angle sharply downward in the front and back, causing the back brim to uncomfortably hit the back of my neck. I was initially going to try and remove the creases with a steam iron, but the care instruction tag says "wash cold, do not iron". So I washed the brand new hat on cold / cold permanent press cycle in my washing machine w/o any soap or other additives. The creases were still present. I then placed the hat between two thick absorbent towels on a flat surface and weighted it down with heavy objects. After leaving it sit like this for about 24 hours, the hat was dry and the creases were gone. So with a bit of work, I now have a nice sun hat. YMMV.
Folds, washes, and works well

I have worn this hat through east Africa, Japan, and the US during summer in each and I will not travel without it. It fits well enough to not fly off in light wind without the strap, and the adjustable strap works well for high wind like on a boat. The open part where it cools on top is a life saver. Medium for most women is probably perfect. I will probably buy an extra in case something happens to mine and they stop making these. After wearing it a couple weeks in a hot, humid, area, gross sunblock builds up and sweat stains the light colored hats. I used shout on the stains, through it in the washer with a general load, and let it air dry, which worked just fine. I have folded this hat into any number of small spaces and it doesn't distort it terribly. It pretty much springs back to it's usual shape when you go to put it on. There are no hidden pockets on the inside, but I think they would be detrimental anyway because of how well the top cools as-is. I suggest a lighter color to help deter heat.
So light and so versatile for different weather conditions.

Amazing hat for hiking in different weather conditions. I initially bought this for my husband 2 years ago, and he loved it. We recently came back from our trip in Alaska where I borrowed his hat and was super impressed that I ordered myself one as well. First of all, it packs so easy in a suite case because the head part flattens and the brim is thin. Yet, the brim keeps its shape. The size L was a bit too big, but it has the elastic in the back to adjust, and since the hat is super light, it was very comfortable.
When i wore it for a long hike on a rainy day, it kept my face and head completely dry, and yet the hat still remained feather light and dried so quickly. And when I wore it on a hot, sunny day, it shaded my face and the back of my neck from direct sun light. Its feather-light weight is really great that you're not thinking you're wearing a hat, yet it protects you from many elements.

I rated this as somewhat large because I have a very small head and there not being a small size concerned me. With the adjuster cord I could make it tight enough to keep the hat on in the wind. So for those concerned about that, you can feel comfortable about the size factor. This brim is extra wide, which really protects your face, ears, and neck. It is very light weight. It kept it's shape throughout the 2 week trip. You will not be a fashion queen in this hat. At 104, I hardly cared. I would call it functionable. Expensive, but was everything I needed or wanted.
