I kayak almost every weekend and these rope locks are sooooo much better than messing around with ratchet straps
Kimberly B✓ Verified Purchase•April 16, 2018
Anyone that has ever wrestled with ratchet straps NEEDS to buy these. They are so simple to use, and so convenient. I kayak almost every weekend and these rope locks are sooooo much better than messing around with ratchet straps. My kayaking friend has a ratchet strap and it takes her much longer to load up, every time it's like, does the strap go in this way, or that way? Can you hold the end for me so it doesn't get tangled? I've told her and everyone else I know to buy these. You just pull the rope! And to release you just push the button. Really, just like the description says. I can't say it enough, if you have a truck and strap things down these are what you want. They are stronger and more dependable than bungee cords, and easier to use than ratchet straps. Just make sure to get the length that's appropriate for your needs. You won't regret buying these!
Awesome tie downs for bow and stern lines on kayaks

These things are awesome. So much more convenient than tying knots with rope for my bow and stern lines on my kayak. Just hook it into the loops and gently pull the loose end tight and you're done. The black button on the pulley is the release. I'm going to be buying more of these soon.
With a kayak in the summer sun

Drove these all over the west last summer as a front bow tie down with roof mounted kayaks. They weathered very well, stayed snug for long stretches of 80mph highways and did what you'd hope they do.
They'll spin in the wind a little bit, as you might expect a wide, flat surface to do, but I've only ever seen them go about a third of the way around and stop.
Nice find.

and the replacement works great. I have had no problems with the rope ...

I would give 4 1/2 stars if I could. I have owned the previous model of the ProGrip that had the lift tab vs. the button for about 5 years now and it still works flawlessly. I prefer these over using ratchet straps when mounting stuff to my roof rack. I did run into a snag with one of the newer models where the rope did not hold its position, however Amazon quickly sent a replacement overnight, and the replacement works great. I have had no problems with the rope fraying or breaking.
Good Design Questioable Factory Assembly

Bought two of these to use as an awning tie down on an RV and one works great the other not so much. First time I tried to use it I heard a pop and the ratchet stop working. You could pull the rope through it just wouldn't lock up. Since I hadn't used it before the Amazon return window expired decided to take it apart and see what was up. Drilled out the river and removed 4 screws to discover it apparently was missing a retainer on the ratchet spring. Since I didn't have a retainer to fit I drilled a hole in the shaft, added a washer and pin and it now works fine. Factory assembly problem. Make sure you open the package and try these guys when you get them. They work great if assembled correctly. Great for my application.
