Excellent technology, works great,

Very simple installation, anyone can do it. Best technology out there, I waas looking for battery backup systems and found this. Glad I did. At first I almost bought the Zoeller because I have a Zoeller sump pump, but read the reviews and found that this one is better. I used pex water lines with sharkbite type connectors to the pump, much easier than sweating copper. I took my existing check valve and put it after this, even thou it says it doesn't need it. I bought a new quiet check valve for my main pump because the Zoeller one I had made a loud thunking sound every time it operated and closed. Annoying!

I put about 30 gallons of water in my sump pit and unplugged my main pump and watched this work. Very nice! I can sleep at nice now knowing I have some protection if the power fails or the main pump fails. My pit will fit in minutes during the spring if power goes out.
Some quirkiness with design, but ultimately a nice machine.

It never fails. We go on vacation and inevitably we see how terrible our weather is back home (or were at work when weather gets bad) and have to hope and pray our finished basement is dry when we return home! This last vacation we were in North Carolina vacationing just before the hurricane leftovers from Texas hit our hometown. All we could do was hope for the best, but honestly it's stress that I just don't need when out of town!

We took the plunge and got a pro to install it. Honestly with dealing with cutting my fresh water lines, soldering, etc, it was worth the cost. The distance we ran the fresh water was quite a distance, so I think the cost of supplies alone were $200. Luckily we have a guy that works cheaply per hour, so it made things a bit more palatable.

This machine works much better than I ever anticipated from a "backup" ... our waste line is much higher than it should be (contractors are something else sometimes) and this thing still pumps water out like a champ!

Two things I cant stress enough - install a back flow valve, and test it after everything is dried JUST in case. We didn't test it the first time and after screwing around with the pump with installation, we had to readjust so everything worked correctly.

Design wise this pump is long and 180° in design. This means the install is VERY tight once you get a small fresh water and waste water installed. We were able to get it into our crock, and the plumber was able to cut a new hole in the lid of the old cover (decreases noise), but he had a heck of a time getting it all pieces together. I'm extremely happy we finally did this, though. Next trip we can have at least a bit more peace of mind!
Design is Not Well Thought Out

I like the concept of hydro-powered sump backups in case of power outages. But you can count on a complex installation whether you do it or pay a fortune for a plumber who is unfamiliar with hydro backup sumps. Why are they unfamiliar? Because the vast majority of people use battery backups. Anyway, this pump has two positives -- it's water-powered and pumps twice the volume that it uses. Ok. But the negatives outweigh the positives. The worst aspects of this unit are its dimensions in relation to the average sump basin size of 18w x 24d, and in relation to positioning it properly. The effluent intake and float appendage should be adjustable, but they figure you can move it up or down using the flimsy, hokey pipe clamps connected to your main pump's discharge pipe. It still presents a dilemma keeping everything above the pit (in case of leaks) and at the proper height for its backup purpose and the overly bulbous float clear of my main pump's housing. In order to attach the SJ10 to the main pump (Zoeller) discharge pipe, I would have had to reposition the main pump in the pit and reconfigure the discharge piping. Not gonna do for a backup QB, you know what I'm saying? In addition, if it's probable that a sump pit is located below in a basement slab, then it's probable that water supply pipes are in the ceiling above the unit. So why would product designers place the unit's intake and discharge ports horizontal instead of on top of the unit? They take up 7.5" of space alone! To emphasize the illogic, the discharge port has a 90 degree PVC elbow glued to it and it says "Do Not Cut." Well, why didn't engineers just place the discharge port on top as the discharge pipes are likely headed up vertically? I will likely modify this contraption with a smaller float and build a stand/platform for it away from my main pump.
Great pump just be aware it does not come with everything you need to install it. Do some research first.

It works very well. I initially hired an "amazon installer" to do the job but he turned out to be just a regular joe with a phone app and he didn't seem to want anything to do with it because he never came back to do the job. I ended up doing it myself and it wasn't hard at all. You will need a 3/4" water connection to power this thing. Plus a 9D 3/4" backflow preventer which is around 50 bucks on amazon. My house utilizes pex piping so all i had to buy was some pex tubing to connect the water supply, and some pvc pipe to connect it to my existing sump pump line. Thanks to the amazon tech for saving me a few hundred bucks. Check out youtube for instructional videos
What a great pump

So easy to hook up. I suggest u get a slotted sump cover. Most install pics I've seen have no cover installed since the pump sits over the cover it makes it difficult to install on a standard cover. Just did my first test by filling up the basin and wow is this pump quiet I hardly realized it was pumping till I saw it cleared all the water in my basin. Also be sure to install a backflow preventer my local plumbing inspector recommended the watts 9d and it seems to be working great.
