Fair not accurate
After 2 years, unreliable.
Austin TexasDecember 25, 2015
Having had this scale for 2 years, I am disappointed with the lack of accuracy and overall make of the scale. The platform seems to bend and flex to determine the weight. However, when I weigh myself on this scale I find that it is off by 2-10 lbs from my doctor's scale and my gym scale when wearing exactly the same clothes, shoes empty pockets etc. Furthermore, the platform bows up in the center so depending on where you place your feet and how far/close your feet are from/to each other, the weight changes. It makes it very difficult to track your progress.
Seems sturdy on the outside

Seems sturdy on the outside, but the inside is plastic and cheap. Made in China. I paid a lot of money for this and it broke in 7 months. Needle now points straight up and there is no way to open it up to try to fix it. Waste of money if you ask me.
Broken and was never great.

UPDATE: I fixed it, so I'm bumping it up to 4 stars (from 3). It turns out that it was simply adjusted *way* negative with the adjustment dial for about -120 pounds. I have no idea why this scale lets you adjust the needle to be -120 pounds (and even further), or how it got there, but that was the only problem. It's now working fine again. I can deal with the other flaws as long as it basically works.

---------------------------
I owned the scale for two weeks before it broke. It's permanently stuck at 240, now. I called Detecto just now and the don't manufacture it, they just sell it, so repair isn't even an option. They would simply offer a replacement, and if they determine that customer damage was the cause, then they would charge at least 50% of the list price to replace it. The tech said the list price is $149 (not $211 like Amazon says.) So that would be at least $75 to replace it if that determination was made. Plus I'd need to pay for shipping. This doesn't seem worth it.

Mine may actually have been damaged since I moved two weeks after I bought it. Who knows what the movers did to it. It was not in a box. There's no physical damage to the outside of the unit, and the tech said that they would have had to drop something very heavy on it for it to break. There's no evidence of that, and yet it doesn't work now.

Regardless of it breaking, it wasn't that great to begin with. I could get it to go to zero with the dial, but it would not return to zero exactly. It would return to 3 or -3 or something in that range. The adjustment dial itself is flaky. Not only does it rotate like you'd expect, but it can also be pulled up and down a few degrees since it feels loose. This also adjusts the zero point. It's easy to move it up and down by accident when trying to rotate it. I don't know why it moves so freely up and down or why this movement causes the zero point to change.
