Nice Looking, Quiet, Affordable
Dan StillAugust 12, 2017
So far so good. The unit I replaced was far heavier and larger enough in size requiring some plumbing to fit. Especially a different Make and capacity unit. If you are unable to do any plumbing you have no business attempting this job. On the other hand now that pipes are plastic there is no reason for anybody who is handy not to try. With a plug on the end and the available air plugs no wiring shills are necessary. So it went in quite easy actually and after I sorted out the plumbing refits, ( came down to add an inch here and take out an inch there ) it was not a bad job and I found the unit to be quite quiet. The old 1 horse model was LOUD. I hope I do not miss the way the other brand had a place in the bottom where a wrench would fit for the purpose of clearing a jam. Ground up an apple, core and all cutting it enough to fit in the throat of the machine. No problem, corn cobs may be beyond the capacity of this unit I do not really know though as they are not considered soft foods there is no reason to believe this unit was designed to dispose of them anyways.
Great deal, even if not needed, yet!!

Bought on "lightning deal" for a great low price, even though I did not need it....yet! I knew just a matter of time that our 28 year old, original Badger disposal would need to be replaced! Well, sure enough, last week it started leaking from the rusted out bottom! My husband replaced this, himself (not a plumber, but has done them before). This one had a plug, so he chose to install a new outlet for it, instead of removing plug and "hard-wiring. Works great, hope it lasts as long as my old Badger did!! ( I will update if I have any problems with it)

Outstanding different means of attachment have a licensed plumber do the initial installation and it is a cake work. after that. Before you ever remove it from its mount there is a tool that comes with it shaped like a dog bone if the disposal gets jammed unplug it insert the dog bone in the end of the disposal and rotate it left and right until you free up the jam. Once a month peel an orange or a lemon and turn on the water into it and turn it on then drop the peelings into it until its all ground up. Use what God provides before you waste money. Once a month a tablespoon of dawn into the mouth of the disposal to clean it out......Great unit comes with a pig tail cord ( I am a electrician so I did not expect that ) Measure the space from the sink bottom to the floor of the under-sink before you order also....good luck nice small unit more than powerful enough and about $40 cheaper than Home Depot and Lowe's.....

Well, I'm pretty impressed. I had to do a little extra work to direct-wire it into the house, as I don't have a plug under the sink and the old unit was wired directly into the house system. Installation would have been relatively painless if I'd actually taken the time to play with the EZ connector instead of jumping right into it. The instructions are decent, but the picture related to the rubber gasket and mounting flange is a little unclear. The gasket does not have to go all the way up, only partially, until the top part sits in the groove. Once I figured that out, it took 5 minutes to get the unit mounted and to finish connecting the plumbing. It was actually harder to remove the old unit and clean up the dried out plumbers putty. As a note, if you get the EZ Connector equipped unit, you don't need plumbers putty unless you don't have a stainless sink. It comes with gaskets that work just fine.

Unit runs nearly silent, much quieter than the old unit it replaced (which had been purchased about 5 years ago at Lowes and cost a lot more with basically the same tech specs).

So far so good!
Great model for the price and installation.

I had a Sears 1/3 HP disposal for about 15 years and it finally died. I went to Home Depot and saw that they had the Badger 1 and 5 models and the Insinkerator. I didn't know anything about garbage disposals so I went to youtube to see how difficult it was going to be to install this sucker. After looking at many disposals I finally choose the Wasteking 1/2 HP, The install took about 15 min since I had removed the old one and the rest is history. Works like a charm and it's not as heavy as the Sears model that I had. It looked like a rebranded Badger model since it looked like one. The only thing that I'm worried about is that I didn't put plumbers putty since it came with a seal. Now there are some videos that said to use it and others that said it was not necessary. So I took a chance and not used the plumbers putty. I hope I'm not going to regret it. It was a really good price as well. Hope this one lasts for over 10 years or longer. I highly recommend this one especially if you are a noob at this kinda stuff.
