Best heavy duty copy stand in its class!

We use the Kaiser copy stand extensively in a motion picture film archive and a still photo / ephemera archive. (Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection & Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Small Gauge Film Archive) We are very happy with the quality of build and ease of use of the RS1.

The RT1 arm provides for precise adjustments, no wobble. Comes with 2 adapters for large or small camera tripod sockets. The RT1 arm adjusts to take large size cameras in portrait or landscape positions. There is plenty of room to use medium format cameras. The base is a little small, you may need to put a piece of plywood over the base to extend it if you bring the camera position out far with the RT1 arm. The column crank has spring tension for easy up and down cranking. The crank knob is a little small, but does the job.

If you want to save a little $$ on the stand you can get the RS1 without the RT1 arm and just use a single position RA1 camera mount. While you save a few bucks on going with the single position camera mount, the RA1 makes it a lot harder to take cameras off and on. The RT1 arm has loads of room for working the camera mount screw, the RA1 is much tighter. To make sure your camera is level use a small bubble level as I show in the photo. The copy stand comes with a factory installed bullseye level attached to the column mount.

If you are short on space you can take the column off with one bolt that has a plastic turn wheel on it. The unit breaks down into a base, column and RT1 arm for small footprint and easy stowing. If you are looking for an alternative to the Kaiser, the Beseler CS-21 is also a good copy stand. But for the price, the RS1 is the best copy stand you can get for the $$.

Very expensive. Well made and works great but arrived with a ding in the base on one side, hence only 4 stars.
