I bought this Pet Gear booster seat (PG) in size medium and the K&H Pet Products Bucket Booster Pet Seati (K&H)n size large at the same time several weeks ago. I installed one on either end of my backseat, leaving about a foot of space in between. I have 3 dogs, each weighing less than 10 lbs, and I've given them free rein in the back seat to sit wherever they want, and here's what happened:

All 3 dogs choose the K&H seat every time we go somewhere. The size large is bigger than it looks in the picture, and sometimes all three sit in it together. When not in the K&H seat, the dogs lie down on either the back seat or the floor - they're never in the PG seat. If I place them in the Pet Gear seat, they jump back out.

In the other K&H seat, they are at the right height to look out the window or stick their noses out if the window is down. They sit up much too high on this Pet Gear seat - it looks like more of a platform than a seat - they sit deeper in the K&H and can't fall off.

There is a big difference in the way each seat attaches with the seatbelt. The K&H is securely attached to the car's seat and does not wobble or flop around like the PG seat. It's would be nearly impossible for a dog to flip the K&H seat or work it loose from the seat belt., not so with the PG. I didn't like the way this Pet Gear seat attached to the car, it wasn't secure.

The K&H costs more than the PG (I got lucky and got them both open box from Amazon Warehouse, paid $33 for the PG and $59 for the K&H), but the difference in quality of materials and manufacturing is obvious. The material covering the PG was already separating on one side, and it just didn't look like it was destined for a long life.

Bottom line: Obviously the Pet Gear seat must work better in a different type of car or with different sizes of dogs, since it did get positive reviews, and it's very possible my dogs WOULD have used the Pet Gear seat if it was their only option (a booster seat is the only way they can see out the window - without it they are so little all they can see is the door handle) but when given the choice it was unanimous

My boy, Duster, LOVES his new booster seat! He didn't have much experience with riding in cars without his crate so when I would take him in the front seat with me, he would just stare at the door handle the whole time, UNTIL I bought this product! Now, he is so excited to get to go in the car - he runs to get his leash and collar and brings it to me to beg for rides. The fit is perfect. He is a Lhasa-tese and weighs exactly 20 pounds. The car seat is a perfect size for him. He can lay down or sit up and he feels very secure because the seat doesn't rock or wiggle. We place the pillow behind for him to lean on because he prefers the solid feel of the styrofoam under him and sits with his butt on the edge. I may get a thinner pillow for him, or just a small blanket, but he really does love his new seat just as it is. I highly recommend this for your short pets who want to see where they are going!

I think this is so ingenious. My 7lb. 12' long Schnoodle looooves his seat. I love that this one seats my puppy high while it sits on the seat of my carseat and not hanging suspended halfway on the chair-back with those straps like the others. This means that when he moves around in the seat it is very stable and there are no straps in the front of him to hold the seat up so that he can chew away on them (he is so in the chewing stage). The booster seat is actually anchored to the chair from its underneath via the car's seatbelt, so no visual straps nor belts... very tidy. It also has a short leash that you hook into your dog's collar/harness to keep him tethered to the seat. I recommend using a harness as opposed to a leash for this purpose, that way your animal's back is restrained and not its neck. It is a simple design of fabric wrapped over styrofoam, but this makes it lightweight yet firm. There is also a removable cushion in the seat. You can take it out if you want your animal to sit deeper in the seat, but then the seat is hard, or keep the cushion in for him to sit higher and comfortable. At that height my pup is able to sit and see through the window, and I even have a little room to put one of his toys in with him. Now we ride around in style and everyone who sees it wants one. It keeps him stay put as if he tries to wiggle out, the short leash restrains him, so he just lays down comfortably until he falls asleep. Do not hesitate to buy this over the others. You will not regret it.

My two Dachshunds love this. It lifts them up so they are able to see out the window, it's comfy, well made, I love that it buckles in like a child's car seat and has the tethers. We bought the large size and it has two tethers, perfect for two small-medium dogs to share.

Okay we recently took a family trip in the car lasting 12 hours one way and 12 back. I purchased this for my two small dogs: A 10 pound & a 3 pound Chihuahuas to be more comfortable, secure sitting up high so they can see out the windows which they enjoy. It worked well but with a few small negatives.

PROS:
The height is perfect for small dogs to sit up and be able to look out. My tiny 3 pounder still liked to stand on his hind legs to look out but it was much safer and more padded for him to do so.
The seat was fairly easy to buckle in with the seat belt strap and stayed pretty tight. It did tip a bit when both dogs went to the side unsupported by the car door.
The two leashes were in good placement but not long enough.

CONS:
SIZE!!!!!! It said this was for two small dogs and has two harness attachments. However, although my two boys could fit and they were okay sitting on it together for short periods, it DID NOT WORK ON A LONG TRIP! My larger dog does not like sharing close quarters like that for so long with my smaller dog who is like an annoying little brother to him. So they both kept trying to jump down to get away from one another. I finally had to leave the little one up there so he could see out the window and spread out to nap while I created a bed out of blankets and another bed for my other pup that wasn't so close to the other dog. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A LARGE FOR TWO DOGS!!!! It barely fits two small dogs and at that not very comfortably where either can lay down comfortably strapped in. You can easily see from the photos that my 10 pound dog takes up the entire bed area when he laid down leaving zero room for another dog to sit or lay on it. For the amount I shelled out for this, I would have had to get TWO but when I looked at
PRICING!! - the pricing for a medium was the exact same pricing as the large????!!!! Major con there. And due to all the above that is why I only rated a 3-star!
Harness holders are too short- need more ability to adjust length as needed.
