Not as stout and wide as I thought.

The picture is deceiving. I thought this would be a platform to set the AC unit upon. It is not. It's like an arm. The surface on top is only about 4 inches across. Therefore the foot pad is only about 3 inches. For a 100 lb AC unit, that's a lot of pressure in one spot against what is generally some sort of siding. The picture had me thinking the foot bracket would be 18 inches or longer, better distributing the load. I went ahead and used this for a 18500 Btu unit weight 100 lbs, but I also used the two L brackets that came with the unit, and put a metal plate underneath to spread the load. It's okay for a smaller unit. Rethink it for bigger units.
Warning, MacGuyvering may be required.

I purchased this along with my "Frigidaire 15,100 BTU 115V Window-Mounted Median Air Conditioner " and was looking forward to some relief from the summer weather. I wrote quite an extensive review on the air conditioner which expressed a few of my feelings on this mounting kit but I shall go into more detail about it here.
My first instinct in rating this product was to give it five stars because it is functioning well and is sturdily supporting our 100 pound air conditioner. After I thought about the trials it put my husband though with installation, we agreed that three stars was far more appropriate. I am not whining about this being effortless or being able to do it blind folded, this is about the rig itself and the gerry-rigging that became necessary. This kit calls itself universal. This is FALSE. It also does little in advising about proper mounting procedure when it comes to right or left side heavy units, except to tell you about it.
As we are capable of thinking critically and using common sense, the latter wasn't a big deal, but it would have been nice to have more guidance and tips to deal with the situation as our unit ended up being left-heavy. As for the former, we were absolutely livid that it said universal when it is designed only for single hung windows, not for windows that have any kind of track on the sill. Call me delusional, but in my experience, windows with tracks are far more common than those without these days. Because of this, my husband had to MacGuyver the thing like crazy to get it to work with our window. It was an extra headache that could have been avoided had the product been titled properly or critical information been included in the product description/details. No one should have to sift through reviews for pertinent information like that.
I hope this review helps or at least entertained you with images of a man MacGuyvering an AC mount with things we had around our house.

Not "Universal"

Doesn't work for our windows at all. Designed with the following assumptions:
- That any screens or storm window frame is level with or lower than the window sill
- That the bottom of the AC is perfectly flat
- That a heavy, awkward AC will be perfectly balanced on the 2-3" wide surface of this mount and will never move or slide.
After cutting various pieces of wood to try and make it fit I gave up and just made a proper shelf that will support the AC across its full width.
If you live in an old house with storm windows or screens (like every house I have ever owned), this will likely not work for you. And the concept of the weight being perfectly centre on this slippery narrow metal support seems faulty and potentially dangerous.
Returning if it's not too late

Works great for a variety of window types, may need to throw the instructions out for some applications and just wing it.

Works great and for a variety of applications.
I used it to support a 10000 BTU AC in an aluminum, horizontal sliding window opening.
Instructions may not always apply, such as with the way I used it, but a little common sense should get you there.
With my aluminum, sliding window I had to add a 4" long 2x4 block outside and just below the aluminum frame to have a place to screw it in.
I pre-drilled the block so it wouldn't split and anchored it to the house with 4ea deck screws.
Set the angle then placed two more deck screws under the brace foot.
Worked Great! Nice and secure.
I think most any DIY type person could easily make it work for most any window type.

strong and stable support

this bracket is strong and stable. the key to its success is finding the center of balance for your particular air conditioning unit. I laid a 2 x 4 on its side, and balanced the A/C unit on it. Mark the position with a pencil, transfer that mark to the window frame and you are ready to mount the bracket. the accessories that come with the bracket include three different sized spacers which can accommodate various thicknesses of window trim. (Using these spacers allows the AC unit to rest on the frame and not on the metal chassis of the AC.) Setting the angle of the diagonal brace can be somewhat tricky, the built in bubble level quickly eliminates the guesswork of which pre drilled hole you should use. the diagonal brace has a rubber footing to help it stay in place, but I would recommend locking the footing in place with at least one screw (two pre-drilled holes are supplied).
