Purchased the pump along with a quart of the robinair oil. It smoked a litte the first few times it was used but has since cut back to almost zero smoke. I change the oil in it often as recommended and it runs like new five years later.

I am an unbiased, verified purchaser of this pump. I am also a weekend mechanic, working on my car, as well as family and friends. I bought this pump on October 12, 2011 (per amazon order history), and have easily done 10+ cars A/C work. It still runs strong as it did when I bought it 6 years ago. It only has to do one job and it does it very well- pull a vacuum. Also comes with vacuum oil, 2 inlets and an on/off switch. Not much else to say other than I am glad I have this in my garage for the day I need it again.

It pulls vacuum, is quite, and is easy to transport. However after running for 4 hours on an automotive AC system it never did get below 28 mmHg.

This pump served it purpose and if my gauges were correct then it pulled the vacuum of my auto air conditioning system down to the correct levels. I ran the pump for a total of approximately 90 minutes. This was my first time using this pump and I purchased it new. The oil level will drop considerably though so you will need to keep a close eye on the oil lever if used over an hour. I was surprised to see the level drop at least a fourth of the way down from the line that shows full.

VERY nice unit. For the few bucks, I went one size over for pulling AC vacuum. I figured with this type of unit, bigger would mean less struggling to get the job done without all the problems smaller units seemed to display. None of the complaints I hear about other units. Extremely quiet; no smoking; no oily spray or odor. After 40 minutes it was barely warm. I'm happy!
