Try Brackets first before you assemble.

The Assembly was very Easy, but the Brackets did not fit or work for a standard door. I called the seller who suggested I return the item for a refund. The item was already assembled and therefore even a more inconvenience to disassemble. I will now have to purchase brackets.

I want a refund but i waited a week too long and now the window is closed. This is an avalanche every other week because there's nothing to hold the shoes in place, and the bars never stay locked in place. Waste of money, waste of space, and I'm very unhappy that I am stuck with this purchase.

If I could give this zero stars, I would. I had this rack about two weeks before it began to bend my door hinges and pull the screws out of the frame. My door now hangs crooked! Avoid this product and the money that you will need to spend on repairs.
Does NOT hold 36 pairs of shoes!

The concept is very good, but the plastic parts may be a durability problem.
I've added my photos of how this arrived and how it goes together. I used a rubber mallet and gently seated the rods in the plastic side moldings. The sound changes as the rods bottom out making it easy to check that they are inserted fully. Once seated, the rods seem to be firmly held. When clipping the 3 pieces together that make the side, it was important to make sure the tabs fully click into place. I found I had to push on each one to make sure it locked correctly. The metal hanger slots onto a tab on the uppermost plastic side. The plastic tab does look flimsy compared with the metal hanger and could be potential failure point with lots of shoe weight added. It was a little tricky to line up all the rods when attaching the other side molding, but the plastic is flexible enough to be able to knock in each rod in sequence and then engage the next rod.
I'd measured my closet door before ordering so I knew what to expect for fit. It works just right for my installation.
The Velcro stickers to stabilize the rack are not much useat all. They are an afterthought and aren't strong enough to hold the one side to the door, where the plastic seems to be twisted slightly compared with the other side and hangs away from the door. There's no designed in place for these round stickers and they sit on a narrow rectangular part of the plastic. - as mentioned, an afterthought in the design. Fortunately the one side does sit well to the door and those Velcros are enough to stabilize the unit to the door with shoes weighting the rack down.
This is absolutely not a 36 pair rack. 24 yes, 36 no way! My wife's size 8's only fit two pairs to a row, not even room for a single shoe between them.
The rack can hold size 13 shoes, though they stick out quite a ways, but with high ankle shoes, the weight, being on the outside, is likely to cause the shoe to fall out.
I'll have to wait and see how long this organizer lasts, as other reviewers have mentioned durability issues. However, it does exactly what I wanted -for now.

MAY NOT FIT 36
Cassandra✓ Verified Purchase•September 23, 2017
WARNING: May not fit 36 pairs of shoes.
I wear a size 7 shoe, and I had a very hard time fitting 3 pair on the same row. If the product was about an inch or two wider, they would fit. So, unless you wear a small shoe size, you won't fit 36 pair on the rack. This would, however, be perfect for children's shoes.
Also, the height of your heels may block the shoes below it. I have to pull my heels out in order to grab the pair below.
Item was easy to assemble, but arrived a week later than expected. Overall, I'll use this temporarily (as I don't like to deal with returns and I can possibly use it for my son's shoes later), but I will be looking for a better option.
