Durable and fun - needs a better fin to truly enjoy it.
Jerzy SJune 4, 2017
Excellent sturdy product. We absolutely love it!
Few warnings and suggestions:
1. DO NOT pack the paddle handles inside the bag with it. When you split the paddle, you end up with 4 short pipes with edges sharp enough to cut through both the bag and the kayak. In fact, this is the ONLY puncture I experienced since the purchase a year ago. Alternatively - you can buy plastic covers for the ends.
2. The fins that come pre-installed by the manufacturer are ridiculously inadequate!!! To avoid many hours of frustrated kayaking experience, before you even try it, install (glue) a larger removable fin - i got this one https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01JS17GH6/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1 and it works great. With this simple improvement, the kayak changed from "slightly annoying' to 'awesome' as if by magic! You need to be a bit more careful getting in with the taller fin, but the improvement is well worth the extra trouble.
3. The kayak comes with a patch kit, but the glue takes 24 hours to set. Get a "clear patch tape" https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B001949Z4I/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_25 (and a pair of safety scissors) for instant, permanent and nearly invisible puncture repair.
4. The light color does get dirty in muddy waters, but even the tough looking stains go off easily with a sponge and little dish soap.
5. Don't let the weight description fool you - with paddles, pump, seats, flotation vests etc, it is not light. It fits easily into the trunk of your car, but don't plan on taking it on long hikes. The bag strap is uncomfortable and the bag itself bulky and not easy to carry
6. This may sound obvious - but even I made a mistake of putting the seats and launching the boat backwards. If you are going in circles - you did too. Always remember that the 'sea eagle' logo is pointing to the front. :) Anyway - it is so embarrassing - you can only make that mistake once....

Enjoy and have fun!
Well worth the money! Very durable and comfortable

We've used this last summer roughly 5-7 times and couldn't be happier. It's extremely well built and very durable. we used it in open ocean as well as river and lake use, never had any issues with it and he seats are probably the most comfortable you'll get in the inflatable kayak "realm". I think that's the best part...you can sit in the kayak for extended periods of time and you'll still be comfortable. If using it for 2 people, (my wife and I are both 5'7 and I weigh 180lbs) and we fit comfortably with a little extra room for a back pack squished in between the seats or behind the rear seat. The larger model (which is what we have) is great for 2 people and a "normal" sized backpack but it would not fit 3 adults. We did our research before buying an inflatable and really hesitated as we thought it would just be a waste of money for something that would eventually just get a hole and become useless. While more expensive than other inflatables, I feel like it would take "a lot" to puncture this thing and you get what you pay for.

Update: this kayak has lasted and passed the test of time. Owned now for a couple years, haven't used it heavily I would say but "occasionally" each summer. And the material is tough. Really well made and holds the air great after all this time. We fold it up and store it in the bag it came with and sits like that throughout the winter. Haven't had any issues or degradation from the folding and unfolding over that period.

If you've ever signed up and done a "white water rafting trip" with one of those companies...the material of this is the exact same as the material used in those 8-10 people white water rafting "boats". Hope that helps.
Great while it lasts -- and they stood behind it.

I am updating my review from 1 star to 3 as the best I can come up with between my enjoyment of the product, (5)!, and my disappointment that it failed so soon (1). I had read another review that said Sea Eagle would only stand behind the product if you bought it from them. That is not true in my case even though the language of the Warranty gives them that right. Mine was bought through Prime from VMinnovations. I had to call them to get the original receipt from them (not my amazon one). Once I sent that to Sea Eagle, along with the picture below, I had a new hull in a matter of days!

During the almost 3 seasons I enjoyed the first boat, I ran it into rocks and trees and the only problem I had with it was something sharp putting a little hole in it while it was drying out in the garage. Easily patched and no problem after until the catastrophic seam failure which was covered under warranty. It was very durable in actual use.

Significant down sides are that it rides a bit low in the water and is more difficult to paddle compared to a hard side. It is also inconvenient to have to dry it out before you can store it. Takes me about 20 min or so from the time I arrive until on the water and is a good amount of exercise to fully inflate.

I think those things are more than made up for by the fact that everything goes into a bag that you can carry and store in very little space. I have actually parked at the end point of a couple of different runs then hitchhiked, with the boat, to the start point! Also, the seats are very comfortable and the boat is way more stable in the water than a conventional one. Below is the only really bad experience I have had with it that wasn't my fault. (We won't count the time I crashed it into a bridge in a raging river and lost my glasses;-)

Went to take my grandson down the Mississippi this weekend for what should have been a spectacular fall color trip. He had the gauge out and we were almost finished inflating it. One side was just a touch short of fully inflated when all of a sudden, POW!!!! Boat suddenly went from something that gave us many hours of enjoyment to a worthless hunk of plastic. Thankfully we were not in the water at the time.

Enjoyable and rugged whatever your limitations, capabilities and risk tolerance.

Paddled the Sea Eagle 370 to the Boston Harbor Outer Islands a few times, Buzzards bay a few times, Ninigrit National Wildlife Refuge, Slocum River, Contotook River, and the Hudson River. Caught black sea bass, fluke, stripers, and blues. Each trip was 5-10 miles and fun as heck.

Bobbed over 3 ft swells, ferry wakes, and chaotic chop. Have not yet felt at risk of capsizing. Almost fell out playing around in the bow with a fish finder transducer bracket. [lesson: keep a line tied to you and the sea eagle on open water.] If you do capsize (unlikely) or fall out (more likely), it is easier to get back into the Sea Eagle than a kayak. Practice before going offshore. It's fun and will build your confidence/competence.

Dragged the Sea Eagle over coastlines strewn with shells and pebbles. Hit submerged river rocks and bounced around/over them. The closet I've come to puncturing it is (a) hooks (b) knives. [lesson: (a) No knives are on board (b) all hooks must be grounded in a (wine) corks. Be really careful casting, and even more careful landing fish].

Make sure the inflation caps are on securely. The bottom seat bag twice deflated after the cap rubbed against something and somehow worked itself loose. [lesson: like a boat propeller or sailboat boom - keep the inflation caps clear]
Aside: When the water temp gets cold, I will try towing an inexpensive, one person, inflatable as back-up.

Takes more work to get from point A to point B compared to the hard shell kayaks. For reference If you can propel a hard shell 3 mph for 5 miles, plan on 2.5 mph in the Sea Eagle. The good news is that the Sea Eagle will melt away more extra calories and in increase your upper body strength :).

Tracks into 10 mph gusting 14 mph breezes 200+ lbs on board without much more effort than a hard shell kayak. Like most vessels, yaws when running with swells. Adding a keg might help, but I drag it up on the shore and portage over sand/rock bars frequently and don't want to bother removing it each time. The 2 skegs already on the Sea Eagle haven't broken yet.

Get the best seat they offer. If you plan on taking gear or two adults without much gear, get the bigger version. Probably not much difference in performance. One is heavier to carry.

Why a sea eagle and not a sea kayak?
- Lower cost
- Transport solo and without car racks
- Requires much smaller storage space after use
- greater capacity for fishing gear, picnic stuff, camping stuff
- More stability if you move around. Less likely to capsize
- easier to get back in if you swamp or fall out (see below)
- friends and family without car racks can borrow it.
- if it gets damaged, lost, or stolen, unpleasant but replaceable and not a huge loss of money..

Why a kayak and not a Sea Eagle?
- Faster and easier to cover distances
- more convenient if you can store it at the water and use if frequently from the same place
- Tougher construction, hard to puncture unless you really hit something hard
- Novices can rent and get lessons

Why either?
- I paddled about a mile out on Buzzards Bay to fish a ledge. The only other boat around was a huge, beautiful, 100+ foot yacht at anchor. When I got closer to it, I saw couple kayaks tied off the stern. Ask them.
- Paddle to an island or light house and experience the warm and special reception reserved for paddlers
- Feel ten feet tall when captains hail hello and make you feel part of their world.
- Tell fish stories to prove you are no longer New England's worst fisherman.
- Scoff at novice boaters and yahoos on the water.
- Let your sweetheart see and feel your new body.
- Watch family and friends laugh and play.

Set-up/break down: Takes about 15 minutes to set up and same amount of time to dry and roll up, no biggie. Foot pump is fine. Make sure the inflation hole caps are on securely.
Maintenance - After deflating, dry it with a towel or you'll get mildew. I bring a big sponge on board to soak up what little water that might get in and wipe the kayak off after use. Drying towels in the car trunk are handy when you get back ashore.

A fun and creative project is to add a PVC bracket to mount a Signtek-type portable fish finder with holders for the display, a fishing rod, and a flag (or light).

Heavy duty carry bag, but wish it bag had 2 back pack style straps. It's awkward and uncomfortable to carry.

Final note: It's not if, but when you will have an unplanned event. Fun can quickly turn ugly if you don't plan for emergencies, don't file a float plan, or don't pay attention to the weather and water conditions. It can turn tragic if you don't wear a PFD. Respect your capabilities and limitations.

***** 2 ½ Month Review - This is no "Rubber Boat"
This is Kayak is an excellent investment. We have been using this for about 2 ½ months now.
It came to our door in about 4 days time. It was packed very well and unpacked easily.
It included the 370 Kayak, very large and good quality Sea Eagle canvas duffle bag, 2 paddles that break down to 4 pieces each per paddle (2 paddle ends, 2 poles make 1 paddle and there are 2 complete paddles), 1 lightweight but sturdy foot pump complete with hose and adapters (this pumps a very large amount of air in a very short amount of time), a repair kit, and a gauge to measure the air pressure.
The gauge is a clear piece of plastic that simply measures against the markings on the inflatable tubes of the craft. It is real simple to use. The material is a tough PVC that can take a lot of abuse and cleans up nicely.
** Tip, we ran the repair kit string through it so it doesn't get lost and is easy to find.

***** Sea Eagle 370 Kayak
First we empty the Duffle bag and Gym bag, we break it up and place the Kayak and Paddle poles in the Sea Eagle canvas duffle bag, and place the Paddle ends, foot pump, and Measuring device in a regular Gym bag. The Gym bag is light enough for 1 person to carry along with the 2 seats, while the other one pulls the heavier Sea Eagle bag on out folding cart. (That's just how we do it, it is nice and easy that way)

This Kayak sets up and tears down like a dream, partly due to their use of special valves that install and un-install with finger pressure. Easy enough that my 9 year old granddaughter not only can do it but has done it now multiple times. They are a large diameter and the only hard thing was getting their retainer loops around the Boat sockets. If you have weak fingers, you may need help initially installing them, but once they are on, they stay on and you don't need to worry about them again.

Setting up is as easy as rolling the Kayak out, Place the inflatable Skeg covers (Skegs are the 2 bottom fins for tracking) in place to protect them, then threading the valves in, then inserting the hose to each tube, one at a time, and using the foot-pump to pump in the air. This is done surprisingly quickly, and then capping off the valves by just screwing on the caps. I get a lot of interested people who watch us and are amazed that we are able to have a 12 ½ foot Kayak in a bag. And once close up, they too are amazed at the quality of this.

You start with the bottom, then do the 2 sides, taking the measuring tool to get the right amount of air in them, then you inflate the front and back end caps which firm up the Kayak.

***** Seats
Next are the Seats, you simply place them in the Kayak in the desired places, easy as pie.
The Pro package we ordered came with the Pro Seats. They are of a good quality and are covered in a canvas which not only protects them and adds stability, but also make a neutral temperature to sit on, so if the sun is blazing, and you are out of the boat on shore or swimming, when you get back in, the seat is not scorching hot, and the opposite goes if it is cold.
You can put the seats in anyplace in the Kayak to adjust for amount of space you need.
I would recommend getting the Pro Package for the extra, it is worth it.

Next we take the Skeg covers off, put them in back of the kayak, place the Kayak in the water and tie it off.
Then while one person watches the Kayak, the other takes back the bags, pump, and cart to the car and locks it up.
Then we are ready to go.
As detailed as this may sound, after a few times, this team work only takes about 15 minutes from car trunk, to getting into the Kayak.

***** Paddles
We jump in the Kayak and are off to fun : )
The Paddles are light weight and strong, and break down to 4 pieces per paddle.
All the pieces do float, so if one rolls off the pier while assembling, it won't sink.
They are easily put together, and they give you 3 positions to adjust for your paddling, we just use the center position. My 9 year old granddaughter's 1st job when we start putting it up, it to assemble the Paddles, takes her less time than it does for me to roll out the Kayak and set the inflation valves.

***** Useage
As for using the Kayak, it handles very well, I am about 5'7" 195#, and Grand daughter is about 4' and 85#.
I sit in the back and place her seat about 2/3 the way up the kayak, and that seems to work well for us, giving me good leg room and her too. We synchronize our paddling and can make good speed. However when it is windy and waves are a bit high, I can see where a hard body Kayak would be better as the Sea Eagle has a larger profile for the wind and waves to fight.

I bought this mainly to provide a healthy and fun way to work off some of my mid-section, and Kayaking defiantly does work your mid section, you can feel the burn. By summer's end I should be at my weight goal.
It is easy to paddle and can go pretty quick, plus it handles the large Boat swells much better than a Hard Kayak, as it is flexible enough to roll with the waves, whereas the hard Body Kayaks I see,, the waves will sometimes wash over them.
I can visualize many years of use with this and cannot recommend it enough.
