Pretty good, but there are some drawbacks
S LamarJune 29, 2016
The good: I really like the position of the mirror. It's higher and feels natural. Use it all the the time. That said, there are some drawbacks. It takes time to get it adjusted perfectly, and then you must tighten the hell out of it so it doesn't vibrate loose. You also need to be mindful that it doesn't get bumped when leaning/laying your bike down--will likely break.

Speaking of breaking, mine has, twice. First it finally broke where attached to the shifter. After repeated tightening, it finally broke the attachment. I was committed, so used epoxy to permanently affix the base. After months of more riding, the horizontal arm just snapped in two while I was riding. I guess several years of vibration finally got to it? I guess I'll need to buy replacement parts if I want to continue using.

I wish there were a dampening they could include. I think this would smooth out the view in in the mirror, reduce the incredible tightening required, and cut down on mechanical stress.
Does the job.

Of the 4 bicycle mirrors I've tried this is the best. A strap-on mirror broke when the bike fell over. A mirror that plugged into the end of the handlebars was too small to be useful. A helmet mirror did not adequately adhere to my helmet.

Assembly is a little involved but all necessary tools are included and it makes sense once it starts to go together. Make sure your bike has compatible shifters. A complete list of compatible Shimano shifters can be found on the Mirrycle website.

This mirror will vibrate out of alignment on large potholes or washboard roads. You want this to happen. If the mirror were attached too tightly it would break off if/when the bike falls on it. Realigning the mirror is simple and quick.

I wish the mirror were slightly larger, but you can still easily see car-sized objects at a range of 1/8th mile which is about 8 seconds at highway speeds.

UPDATE: After many hundreds more miles of use this mirror has stood up well. I found that tightening the adjustment screws a little resulted in the mirror staying in alignment so now I only rarely have to readjust it.

UPDATE: With more than a year of use I'm still very happy with this mirror. I did have my bike fall on the mirror but the mirror pivoted and did not sustain damage.

UPDATE: I stupidly had the mirror too tight and pushed it against the trunk lid while loading the bike in my car. The mirror and mount did not break, but the part of the shifter it mounts to did. Tried numerous glues trying to fix it to no avail. Back to a helmet mirror.
One of the best accessories ever.

I've put a Mirrycle bike mirror on every bike I've had since about 1988, including two of the original version for straight up brake levers. Now I kinda feel blind riding without one. Last week I put one on a road bike I just got with Sora STI levers. None have failed yet, except twice when I was stupid and let my bike fall over. Both times the glass broke, but that was all. The rest of the hardware was unscathed. I'll need to be careful with the new one if it is true as the previous review mentioned where the STI lever itself can break. That could be bad. But my point still holds - these things are fairly tough. You need to be a bit gentle when first installing because of the self-locking nature of the threads - they tend to pop and click as you tighten the screws all the way down. Just take your time and don't use your gorilla grip. Then afterward put the wrench in your pocket and go for a good ride around the block. Chances are good that you'll need to tighten the screws a bit more than you first thought. But once you find the sweet spot they're fairly easy to adjust but still stay in place. Now as I say that, I haven't tried riding with one on the cobblestones, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

If you do happen to go through a bout of stupidity and let your bike fall over and break the glass, you can get the replacement glass by itself here on Amazon and you won't have to buy a whole new mirror like I originally did.

As I said, I feel blind now riding without one. I think the Mirrycle bike mirror is one of the best cycling accessories ever invented.
This mirror mounts easily as shown in the photograph
Mike in Linden, MiJuly 17, 2014
This is a very handy mirror and provides me with accurate and advance notice of any traffic that is behind me. I had a bike shop try to steer me toward one of the smaller mirrors that mount at the end of my handle bars and basically plug into a small socket that is inserted into the end of my rolled handle bars on my Jamis Endura road bike. I did buy the smaller mirror, but it seemed to distort objects and I opted for the Mirrycle Road STI Bicycle Mirror afterwards. This mirror mounts easily as shown in the photograph, is larger and does not affect my ability to shift gears or brake my bike. It also provides me with relief in knowing that I can now see who is coming up from behind so that I am alert and always in full control of my bike and without straying off course. There is an uneasiness that comes with riding a bike without a mirror and it is akin to operating a boat or vehicle in the fog as you never know when an approaching vehicle will be at your rear. This is a solid installation, assemble/mounts quickly and the mirror is large enough for anyone to see behind a bike while riding and well worth the money spent. If you want to enhance your safety while riding, this is the mirror to have as the smaller handle bar socket style mounted mirrors do not compare with the enhanced visibility that this mirror provides.
Gives a great view

The mounting location and the quality of the materials make this one of the best mirrors I've owned. The view behind is clear, great angle, and visible from a comfortable position. Compared with the Cateye BM-300G, the mirror is more sturdy, and less likely to droop with vibration. The Mirrycle mirror is also less likely to be bumped by your hand, and also snag on something.

The sturdiness is also a liability when you crash. The Cateye will simply snap and shatter without a huge problem. The Mirrycle mirror might break the plastic in the brake lever housing it is mounted on. It didn't compromise the operations of the shifter and brakes on mine, but I am no longer able to mount the mirror to one of the STI control pods.

The only downside is that the mount is constrained to shimano shifter brakes of a certain vintage. If your controls have the mount, then great. Double check before you buy.
