This refill opens the doors to laying down a realistic and independent sounding bass line. So realistic sounding that you can add ghost notes, glissando, and much more. I state add because you can play the bass you want and add these elements after to adjust the sound to suit your needs.
The hypersampling technique that Propellerhead uses makes it possible to also determine the velocity of the note played. Which means that the softer or harder you press a key varies the sound of how the note is played like with a real guitar. This was achieved by doing numerous samples of the same note played at various velocities. I don't even want to know how long that takes to record and program to get it right.
Bass can be played in numerous styles from rock to reggae to hip hop. What this refill has are eight different guitars to choose from as well as various preset style options that can all be tweaked to your own taste. Or you can even build your bass from the ground up using the combinator in Reason. Then there are the additional stomp boxes to push your sound even further.
There is much more that you can do with it and it might all sound complex but when you first try it out you will realize like I did how simple it is laid out. Which makes me wonder why it has taken so long for someone to do this.
I bought my copy a few weeks back and already it has changed the way I construct my music. I am now much freer, more in control and more confident about the sounds I can produce with it. Usually I had to sample bass that I like to get something that sounds real. I can safely say I don't ever have to do that again after acquiring this refill.
Propellerhead lets you try out a demo version that you can download and try before you buy. I say if you are interested enough to try it you should just go straight ahead and buy it. Yes it is that good and better than you would expect.
