I could not be more pleased with the tone
MARK A STAFFORD•February 13, 2017
Installed on my old, beat up 73 Guild Mareira Acoustic folk guitar. I positioned it slightly forward and the results are fabulous. It has captured the sound of that mellow old guitar perfectly. It is rare that I get exactly what I expected, but this time I could not be more pleased with the result.
Installation was not too difficult for me to do myself. I followed the directions and it walked me through the process well. The pickup comes with an installation "jig." The directions say that professional installation is recommended. If I was working with a very expensive guitar, I might be inclined to agree with the recommendation. (I did chip my finish a little more than it was already chipped).
Over all, I would recommend this product!

This is a great pick up

This is a great pick up. Don't be put off by my 1 star deduction. I'm being very picky. Especially for the price. If you're handy it's not too hard to install in your acoustic. The only nerve wracking part is that you will have to drill the strap pin at the back of the guitar out a little. If you're not confident about this pay a guitar tech to install it. Installing the pick up itself onto the under saddle is a bit fiddly, but not that hard. I threw a mirror inside the guitar so I could see what I was doing a bit better. I adjusted the position to try and get the sound just right, but I don't think it's quite as particular as some people make out.
Sound: it's ever so slightly 'boomy'. It sounds very clean and clear overall, but there is a hint of boom about it (as I think has been reported elsewhere). I think this pick up would work best when connected via an equalizer of some sort so you can adjust the sound to your liking. I did have some feedback issues with a friend's amp, but I'm not sure whether that was specific to his set up. I need to look into that a bit more. I tend to connect into an interface rather than an amp and that works fine for me, but if I have more problems with feedback, I think I'll experiment with a soundhole cover and update this review.
In case you're interested I installed this in a Martin Dreadnought guitar. It hasn't changed the acoustics of the guitar at all, unless for the better.
Good pick up, I'll probably try the lyric next time just for the hell of it, but LR Baggs are great. Their customer service is EXCELLENT as well which is worth knowing.

Sounds great and easy to install!

I installed this in my Taylor GS Mini and it sounds great. It fit perfectly and was really easy to install. Everything basically installs with VHB tape. For GS Mini owners, I placed the volume knob on the small flat bracing just inside and above the sound hole -- this allows me to still be able to use a feedback sound hole insert. I then removed the bracket for the ES-Go pickup (3/16" hex wrench needed) and installed the battery pouch in its place. The jack fits in the current end pin hole so no drilling needed, but I did grab an M12 washer to cover up the routing of the original strap pin.

a great solution and less costly adventure by installing this in my Takamine acoustic. I watched a few YouTube on how others did they're upgrade and did it myself.... taking my time with the install , was a piece of cake ,,, and the sound is amazing! I had to change locations of the pickup a few times which is time consuming but in the end ,,, all worth it! LR Baggs all the way baby!
Simply the best

I installed one of these in my Martin OM-28v a few year ago. For the best sound, I ended up moving its placement to the other side of the bridge pins, and the sound was incredible. Now I'm looking to electrify my new Martin 00-18v, and the choice is easy, another L.R. Baggs iBeam!
