Beautiful in appearance

Beautiful in appearance, unfortunately Case's quality control has failed on this Case Large Bonestag Stockman, No 03493, manufacture date 10/30/17, WO# 1400372. I could not open the spey blade on the first knife sent to me without pressing side ways on the sheepsfoot blade towards the clip blade, i.e. the spey blade hung on the sheepsfoot blade's fingernail groove preventing the opening of the spey blade. I returned the knife for a replacement, same style and model, which arrived about 30 minutes ago. Although I can open the spey blade without pressing sideways on the sheepsfoot blade, the spey blade very nearly hangs in the same spot, rubs the sheepsfoot blade and put scratches on both blades. I have owned several case knives, both pocket and fixed blade over the past 30 years and grew to really like the knives and depend on their quality. Not any more.
Medium is in the eye of the beholder...but this is great size/style for office/home, excellent fit and finish, solid blades

This medium stockman from Case is on the smaller side of medium - I also have the amber bone medium stockman which is larger. To put the size in perspective with their competitors from Buck, the Case medium brown stockman is about the size of the Buck 303 Cadet while the Case medium amber bone stockman is just a tad smaller than the Buck 301 Stockman. I guess medium is in the eye of the beholder.

The fit and finish of the Case knife is excellent. It is a handsome knife, with a traditional stockman blade lay out. The Tru-Sharp Stainless Steel of the blades is polished. From what I can tell, this is similar to 420HC steel used by Buck, though with Cases heat treatment and tempering. I can't tell the difference between the two steels in use, though I saw some suggestions the Buck steel is a little better at edge retention. I suspect most of us wouldn't know the difference in every day use at the office, which is where I plan to use this. The springs are reasonably tight on the Case knife so that the blades "click" into place and feel secure and safe.

All in all, this is a great size knife for every day carry at the office. Dressy enough for business casual life, and functional enough to span the office to home task settings. Would definitely buy again.
solid knife

Would get 5 starts but had a couple problems. I got amber SS medium and when it came it was a lot smaller than i imagined. I will admit i didnt look at the dimensions though so that could be my fault. I expected this to be great right off the bat and the blades were fine and sharp but the hinge was really really tight. I could barely get out the butter knife blade (Spey) and the other two were not easy. I had to open and close it all night in order to get it in an easily usable place. Also since it is so tight it has some nice scratches on some of the blades from me opening and closing it. I will try to post pictures at some point. Now that the hinge is a little less finicky the knife is super solid. The blades are sharp, the knife is built well and it looks great. Only other complaint is that the bone looking handle is more plastic-y than i expected.
Case's famous fit and finish falls flat

Steel is quality, but fit and finish is really lacking. My knife came with the sheepsfoot blade bent to make space for the spey point blade and the blades have scuff marks from where they rub together.

I bought this knife thinking it would blow my Schrade 8OT out of the water and I'm sad to say it didn't. Pretty disappointing.
Nice knife, quality is ok.

I bought this in March 2017. The price at the time was $37.92 and now it's $55+! I feel like I got a bargain. When delivered I saw a few scratches on the blade which in reality isn't a big deal as I am going to use this knife. There was also a noticeable blemish on the backside of the scales which also Isn't a huge deal to me but, as these can be considered collectable, anyone who is collecting will/might be dissapointed. The grind on the blades is somewhat uneven which is also disappointing with Case's reputation. I suppose they are not made like they used to be but, still made nice with tight smooth action. About an hour with this knife and I can probably get the edge I want on them. Looking forward to using it and there is just something nice having a well made tool in your hand
