Match your cassette and chain brands
Douglas S. Curtis✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 2, 2018
Installation was easy, but even after a new derailleur, new cable and a new cassette at the same time, the chain would jump out and back in gear. I was on a ride while this happened, as it seemed ok on the stand. I paid to have a SRAM chain installed and no chain hopping for the rest of the ride or rides since then. I can't recommend this chain.
Inspect every link..

Its new in retail box.
installed chain and went for a ride and has a semi random skip, further examination had one link that was binding, would pivot one way free, the other was stiff causing a skip.
So removed and flipped chain over and reinstalled it and working fine.
I had already tossed the box, problem didn';t appear till under load.
Nice chain. I bought this as a replacement chain ...

Nice chain. I bought this as a replacement chain for my mid-2000's Felt racing bike. My gear set-up is a couple generations old, and as such is still a 9 speed. This chain went on easily. Took a couple links out to match the length to my old chain. The exact length you need depends your individual gearing though, so be sure to check this before installing.

A master link IS included with this chain, which is awesome. For those who don't know, a master link is one link that can be snapped in place without a specialized tool. Getting it snapped in place can sometimes be a bit of a pain, but it works. The master can also be disconnected relatively easily if you need to remove the chain for whatever reason. Removing a master is not THAT simple, but it's way better than having to pop out a pin with a special tool.

This chain is a little louder than my old shimano chain. I'm not sure exactly why, but it definitely adds a bit of volume to the drivetrain. This is particularly noticeable when I'm on my indoor trainer... outside it's impossible to hear.

Overall, this is a good value on a good quality chain.
Great Chain

I like the KMC chains for my mountain bike. Great price and comes with the Missing Link, which makes it easy to install. I just remove the old chain with a chain removal tool (you need to crank on that baby to get the pin out) and use the old chain to measure the new chain to the right size. Cut the links you need to on the new chain (make sure you cut out one extra to make room for the Missing Link). A little tip if your old chain is a KMC...after you remove the old chain, remove the Missing Link from your old chain and keep it in your saddlebag or camelbak as a spare in case you need it on the trails.
Good value 9-speed chain

Good value 9-speed chain. Bought a used road bike for my wife off Craigslist, had older Ultegra 9-speed groupset which was in great shape except for chain, which was the original Shimano chain. Replaced with this KMC and everything is great. You could spend more on a lighter or fancier chain, but if you're still running 9-speed this is almost certainly good enough to keep the wheels rolling and gears shifting.
