this is the second time i have ordered this brand of snails. last time it was the bigger cans, pack 2. they came in dented. so this time i
thought to order the smaller cans. pack of 4. 3 of those cans came in dented. i will be leary about this manufacturer in the future. it is not
easy to get snails where i live at this good of a price. maybe i will need to try a different brand. the one can that was good was very good.
one of the other 3 i did save because it was not that dented. but 2 of the cans i did throw out because they were really dented and i was afraid to open them. the snails are really big and very tasteful. i guess you need to like snails. my husband is from france and enjoys them often. but overall i have no problem with the snails. just the packing and shipping.

these snails were terrific. Good size and plenty of them. I would have gone with 5 stars if Amazon had not managed to dent the can so bad it could barely stand up.by itself. If you get these, be really careful you don't get a leaker or the product might be tainted.

This is a very superior product. As a French chef, I have cooked escargots for over almost fourty years. I have eatened them around the world including many times in Burgundy. Many canned escargots are good but with issues. Some are the giant type that comes in a dozen to a small can. They are so large that they do not always fit into the set of shells that you may have. The other issue is teh digestive sack that many canned snails still contain and have not been removed. Many snails are fed an oatmeal diet before they are processed as a way to purge their digestive system. At one end of the snails are often a sack that contains still undigested oatmeal. Unless that part is removed, it is not pleasant to eat although harmless. These Consul Very Large snails do not have that issue. The size is not large but perfect. They are a little big bigger than a small shrimp, just perfect for use in a dish or put back into snail shells. The best way to prepare them before use is to drain and poach them for a few minutes in a white wine and broth combination with some parsley and shallots to rid them of a stale odor that canned snails will always have. Drain and they are perfectly good. Do not be concerned when the can is opened. The snails need to be prepared before being used in a recipe. Don't be concerned about not being from France. Deliciously edible snails come from many places. France is one of them but not exclusively so. It is the preparation that puts a signiture on them, not necessarily the country of origin. I absolutely think these snails are not only wonderful but a great bargain.
Only one BIG problem- fixable?

I bought these due to the positive customer reviews, otherwise I would have been too skeptical. I do think these escargot are quite good, and although they are not the Helix, great second choice. Not to mention easy on the budget. The only complaint I have is the dented cans.. My package was in pretty good shape, only one can was dented-pretty good. And, it was dented BEFORE it was packaged. This does bother me. I read that some people had far worse damage. Since this can be a serious heath scare I hope the seller can remedy this problem because it IS a good product indeed.
