Loud and bumpy ride at times, but they get the job done
Alex✓ Verified Purchase•August 19, 2023
Installed on my FWD 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid for a 60 mile descent out of the Lake Tahoe area during a snow storm. They definitely caused some concerning vibrations at times, but I think that's just the price of admission with chains. I would not have made it home that night without these chains. They absolutely got the job done and stayed attached securely. After rinsing them off and spraying with WD-40 (a must), they looked to be in good shape and didn't rust (again, use WD-40). I've used them only once, so I can't comment on durability but they seem to be holding up fine.
as easy as it gets while still useful

I bought two sets of these "chains" for my Ford Ranger to be able to navigate snowy roads in the Michigan upper peninsula. Oddly it was a not very snowy stretch of days, but there were tow times when the spring-style chains were needed and proved indispensable, proving their worth. For my two-wheel drive truck, I knew navigating on snow covered roads exceeding six inches of snow on the road surface might be an issue---it was an issue, but not with these chains.
As for attaching and fitting the cable/ spring-style "chains".... I do not think it is possible for this to be much easier. Every tire chain that is worth using has its quirks and warrants trying out in advance of using the chain in snowy conditions (which I did, in my driveway before entering into a situation where the chains were needed). The plus with this design is no special tool is required to attach them to your tires. And as long as you use good practices for attaching the "chains", pull forward a bit and make additional cable tightening adjustments, you will be able to drive at a decent speed.
The system is tricky to attach the small chain link that connects the cable ends together on the inside side of your tires. One needs to sort of contort their body to get around the tire while laying in the snow and mush while reaching around the tire, connecting the little chain link, and keeping tension on that connection until tightening the beaded cables on the outside area of your tire. It takes a bit of practice to get this applied correctly and is the only caveat to putting the cable system together. But again, every useful tire chain set up has its quirks.
These worked for me and allowed me to operate on road surfaces I for certain would not otherwise have been able to travel upon. After using them a few times, for a number of hours, the cable/ spring systems appears to still be in completely functional condition. I plan to spray them off to remove any salt, let them air dry, and then spray the set with some WD-40 before storing them so no rust forms and I have every confidence the system will continue to give me good service as long as I own my truck.

Do a Dry run when you get them.

These were the first set of chains I ever bought for my car. They're simple to install and take off, but it's a bit confusing if you've never done it. Once you get one on, the other is easy, and removal is more straightforward.
don’t fear the chains !

I tried them on the day before we left for a warm up. These come with gloves so don't buy extra like I did. Bring a waterproof matte to kneel on. On the way up the mountain the next day, just as we pulled over and installed these chains in the snowy turnout up the hill to Big Bear, a worker came by and flipped the sign around to "no chains". Well this would be a blessing in disguise giving me real world practice. On the departure day, we were snowed in and doors were frozen shut.
Step 1: lay the chains on the driveway in front of your tires (front wheels of front wheel drive, back of rear wheel drive) with tire Side stamp facing up. The red cable should face inside.
Step 2: drive onto the middle of the chains
Step 3: hook up the red cable hook on the inside top of the tire
Step 4: hook up each tensioner with the same number of stoppers and then slide green plastic protecter over the end
Step 5: pull forward a few yards then retighten the tensioners a bit so they are equal
Step 6: clinch your sphincter as your prepare to embark on a snowy drive with your family

Easy to install. Notes there is a inside and outside so make sure you have it positioned the correct way. Note, these don't include the tighteners, had to buy separately
