Not very tasty
Amazon Addict•January 13, 2015
It could have just been my pack I received, but these did not have as much flavor as other dates I have purchased here.
They were also quite dry and not as dense as others. There were maybe 15-20 dates per pouch.
I suppose these would be okay to cut up and put in a trail mix, but I would not use them for baking because they just didn't seem too tasty.
I would not repurchase these for the above reasons.

Good dates

I like to read the negative reviews because they frequently display ignorance. Some people complained that the dates were dry and hard. They have to be, that's the nature of dates. If they are soft it means that the vendor steamed them. That makes them mushy and rot easily. It is the dryness and high sugar content that keep them from spoiling easily. Deglet noor dates have pretty much the same qualities from any vendors. If you buy soft ones they are going to rot quickly. The only question I have about these is that the back label says, in small type, Sun-Maid growers of California. It also says product of Tunisia. Doesn't California grow enough of them or is it just cheaper to ship them thousands of miles across the ocean.
Not California grown as advertised.

The listing says "sun ripened California dates." WRONG. They are "Product of Tunisia". They are pretty flavorful and almost moist, but they are certainly not the California dates I remember buying along I-10. I would feel better if the advertising were more truthful and I could have decided if I wanted Tunisian dates.
Healthy, Preservative Free Dates
educatedshopper•June 14, 2014
I loved these because they are preservative free and very tasty. Yes, it is best to refrigerate them after opening the bag, but that is much better than consuming nasty chemical preservatives like sodium benzoate and/or sulfites, to which some people are allergic.
These are similar to Dole dates, another good brand, which is also preservative free. I reccomend getting whole, pitted dates, as chopped dates are coated in dextrose (that is another word for sugar).
Here's a tip to make the dates even more delicious: bring a half-cup of water to a boil. Let cool a bit, add some dates to the pan (I usually add seven of them). Let them soak for 5 minutes, drain them, and you have dates that are more like fresh dates, versus dried.

Good and Good For You
Carl Cloer•February 27, 2014
I am trying to diet and as a result have given up my dearly beloved Butterfingers and Ding-Dongs, and am trying to mitigate the cravings for something sweet with a bit of dried fruit, instead. These pitted dates are my favorite. You have to be careful about how much you consume though because they do contain a lot of sugar, but one or two (chewed slowly) seem to pacify the monster.
You have to refrigerate dates after opening a pack, but the other packs can be kept in the pantry for a substantially long period of time, which makes buying the (Pack of 5) more of a bargain.
