I ordered 2 spades and 2 forks as gifts for my adult son and daughter. One of each was fine but the other one of each had a split handle upon receipt. I returned the defective ones free of cost, and minimal hassle and ordered steel handled ones for my son's replacements. I was skeptical due to 50% defective rate, but my daughter wanted to keep hers since they looked ok. They're a great size for a shorter person. The steel handle replacements I reordered will be a better size for my 5 10' son.

You wouldn't want to dig trees up with this Spade but for normal - light to medium garden bed digging it seems to work fine.
