Spicy, filling, hot and absolutely nutritious breakfast

In East Africa, where I'm from, we have a porridge called Uji, which is essentially made from ground maize and millet. Very nutritious, even one of the first foods you give your baby when you're weaning him/her from milk. At our house, we're big fans of oatmeal, which we've cooked up with bananas (no honey, no sugar) and serve with blueberries, or with some adad lentils with a base sautee of onions, garlic, cloves, cinamon, and chilies. It's absolutely fab. My 20-month-old loves it that way. Until I bought quinoa flakes and made it for him that way--he loved it even more. Today, I made him some garlic peas and carrot hot cereal. Basically, boil the water, add in some peas and carrots (I'm sure corn and potatoes would be divine, too!), salt and pepper (or chili powder), and a chunk of minced garlic. Bring to a boil and then stir in the quinoa. I'm having mine with a dollop of homemade yogurt. Delicious!!!!!!
Great product

I use this as a substitute for oatmeal as it is really hard to find oatmeal that has not been contaminated by gluten. I have made granola cereal with it and even peanut butter cookies. At first the taste is a bit different and it is a lighter consistency than oats but once you get used to it, it works. It also works quite well as a thickener.
Delicious but bad packaging

This s an update to my purchase. First of all I seem to have received a slightly different cereal...not as pictured on site but in a green box. It may be the same product but nevertheless not received as pictured. The cereal is easy to cook, tasty, but my reducing it a star is because of the packaging. Dreadful. No spout from which to pour, and the inside packaging is difficult to open without a scissor.
Easy to make this great food

Great flakes. Truly a superfood. Easy to make. Get a large pot. Bring 7 cups of water to a boil. As you are stirring the boiling water, slowly pour in 2 cups of flakes. Don't stop stirring the boiling water until all the flakes are added (otherwise the flakes will get clumps). Continue to stir slowly. Water might briefly stop boiling, but just wait for a few seconds and it will quickly start boiling again. When that happens, stir for 90 seconds. At the end of the 90 seconds, remove from the heat and let cool for about 5 minutes. Then you can add a little sweetener, cinnamon etc
Excellent Grain Replacement

For those of you who really enjoy "hot cereal" and want to be gluten free and or grain free, this is the cereal for you. Quinoa is not a true grain, which is great for those of us trying to avoid grain altogether. It is very delicious. It is so easy to cook. You can add raisins, nuts and berries to make it extra delicious. A little cinnamon gives it a yummy taste as well. Banana's will sweeten it as well if you are looking to reduce sugar. If you have questions about Quinoa, I suggest you look it up online for vitamin and source information. You can also use to bake cookies or muffins...there are some recipes on the box. This is the best available price for this item. I have shopped around. I bought two cases of it. Excellent Cereal!
